VERY belated Christmas gift to my buddy Kelketek (technically I finished drawing the characters at Christmas time, but I didn't get them colored until now). He mentioned a desire to see our fursonae together and since I still have a tendency to see what characters would look like as ancient Aurans, I decided to run with the idea and turn his fursona into one just like I did with Tenefer.

Metallic effects... as much as I love shiny things, they really kick my tail *LOL*

The background came from a photo I took while I worked on a Forestry degree in my first years of college. I never got the degree (changed my major to Psychology instead), but I kept the photo and it provided a better background than the one I initially drew for the image.

Tenefer copyright Aelius (me)
Kel copyright Kelketek

Tagged as: auran, aurans, fantasy, foxes, male, sages, scifi, tribal, warriors, weapon, wolves, auranauransfantasyfoxesmalesagesscifitribalwarriorsweaponwolves Akosha Returns by *aelius http://www.furryartpile.com/view/35905/ Wed, 21 May 2008 19:10:44 -0700
Artist commentary
Akosha was raised in these mountains since foalhood, and can withstand the cold quite well due to her constant meditation exercises (she's probably doing one right now, due to the solemn look on her face; she's normally quite cheerful and optimistic!). In fact, the mare seems to be quite an enigma because of that. Red and black motif with an intimidating war scythe, it still amazes folks that she's a noble, benevolent Sage. As you can see, I did redesign her weapon a bit. The entire blade is now mostly Verrocite crystal with the focusing metal forming the metal edges and a rigid carbon compound making up the flat side. Akosha is already considered a master at wielding it, and like many Sages of that time did much of the construction herself. When it was finished, she named it Anatou, after a character in a childhood story that used to be read to her when she was younger.

This is the result of a "test run" on my new computer. I think it passed, eh? =P

This began as an afternoon scene, but since I wanted to try more glow effects with her Ruby Verrocite ornaments and then recalled the night scene where I introduced her in the story excerpt I posted, so I did some Photoshop adjusting to make this a moonlit mountain range similar to that in which she was raised in. Terragen was, once again, the provider for the background.
I couldn't really get the glows on her scythe to look right, and since adding a more red tone to her highlights just didn't look good either, I went with a regular gem shine to her jewelry.

Akosha Terias copyright Aelius (me)
Background provided by Terragen

Tagged as: aurans, fantasy, female, fiction, science, tribal, warriors, weapon, pose, scythe, solo auransfantasyfemalefictionsciencetribalwarriorsweaponposescythesolo Melon, sittin' cute by *aelius http://www.furryartpile.com/view/22210/ Tue, 06 Nov 2007 17:39:04 -0800
Artist commentary
Ah yes, Melon is my flagship female and bunnigirl ^_^
Not much to this one, just sitting on some invisible stool in her favorite pink shirt and looking cute for the camera. The only son of a wealthy family of Sages, he, too, was given a mission by his Masters to investigate a number of discoveries in the islands to the southeast. Tenefer is still rather naive when it comes to the world outside of his home city, but the skills he's learned as a Sage has pulled him through even the more dire of situations. His own natural curiosity keeps him occupied throughout his travels and the thrill of discovery would make him an excellent treasure hunter in the future as he explores the secrets that his ancestors and their human allies left behind (humans have long been extinct on Raikonia). Befriending Akosha, even if only for a few days, proved beneficial to his personal morale despite being a loner. As can be seen in this image where he stands near a polar lake, he still has quite a ways to go on his journey.
His weapon, the Verrocite staff known as Jynn-Karu, has been passed down through his family since the days when humans still lived, and having been trained with it all his life, he wields it like a true master.

As I stated earlier, this image came from my wondering what my fursona would look like as an Ancient Sage. Like most ideas I get, he eventually found his way into my stories and before long, was set up for a Stan Lee-style cameo in my story :p I decided against putting in the lightning patterns that's on my current fursona since he's become a part of the story (I have a personal policy against self-inserting into my own stories), but he IS based on my fursona more or less, and thanks to his species and weapon, he also happens to be the ancestor of one of the characters (NOT my fursona XD ) in the main story, which takes place thousands of years after the Ancient Sages series.
Terragen was called upon once again for the background and pseudo-reflections on his armor and crystals, but everything else is done by my hand. The designs on his loincloth and thigh-chaps? Done completely in Photoshop (woohoo!).
And completed just in time to add to my art folio right before Anthrocon! :D

Tenefer Eos copyright Aelius (me)
Background by Terragen

Tagged as: ancient, aurans, fantasy, sages, sci, tribal, wolves, canine, male, pose, weapon ancientauransfantasysagesscitribalwolvescaninemaleposeweapon Rain Dancer by *aelius http://www.furryartpile.com/view/5483/ Fri, 09 Feb 2007 17:31:58 -0800
Artist commentary
Possibily one of my oldest characters, Lana was created waaaay back when the concept for the R-Force stories (as they are now) came to be, long before I knew there was an anthopomorphic fandom (or an extreme popularity of vixens XD ). His multi-colored fur pattern obscured a shadow experiment that I felt particularly proud of; you can see it better in my DA scraps ( http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/47271104/ ). Kiba is also my first African Wild Dog anthro, and the FINAL member of my ancient Sages group led by Akosha Terias.

Back on ancient Raikonia, Kiba was raised in slavery to wealthy northern aristocrats. His life as a servant wasn't all that bad; he was given a pretty high status among the other slaves and even recieved a better education as a pup. When financial troubles hit his owners and they were forced to sell their slaves to make ends meet, they decided to set Kiba free instead, giving him a pair of meticulously-crafted axes with inlaid Verrocite crystals. Kiba wasn't sure why they chose him to inherit them, but upon returning to his desert native lands after many years of servitude, his Aura awakened as if reacting to the Verrocite in his weapons.
In the years that followed, he managed to track down what was left of the village he was kidnapped from as a pup, finding them at the mercy of the hyena tribes that had been taking over the lands. Kiba used his talents as a wild fighter to rescue those that the hyenas had captured and fend off the ones that tried to attack his village, eventually helping train the others of his people to fight better.
Before long, Akosha and her posse happened to come across his village during one of their annual harvest festivals. Kiba was intrigued by the black mare's mission and asked to join her, desiring a new adventure and purpose in his life. Akosha agreed, sensing that his Aura was quite active and willing to have an extra companion in her crew.

Since planet Raikonia isn't Earth, Kiba's species are normally called "Painted Wolves" or "Savanna Wolves."
He is a dedicated warrior for peace, and one may even be taken aback by how proper and aristocratic his nature is, especially the way he speaks (his upbringing in that kind of environment can be attibuted to that). Normally he is very calm and optimistic. However, don't be fooled... when forced to defend his friends and family, he is an EXTREMELY ferocious warrior and refuses to let harm come to those he loves; a dedication strengthened by Akosha's supernatural influence.
Speaking of which, his Auran power is also rather unique among Sages (in those days, at least): the ability to mimic and cancel-out the powers of any Aurans around him. This makes him extremely difficult to take out by other Aurans (namely the malevolent Nephilim Aurans).

And that... rounds out the Ancient Sages :D

Kiba Arundhati © Aelius (me)
background by Terragen

Tagged as: african, dogs, fantasy, sci, wild, axe, canine, male, pose, weapon africandogsfantasysciwildaxecaninemaleposeweapon Meltdown by *aelius http://www.furryartpile.com/view/2854/ Fri, 19 Jan 2007 18:40:02 -0800
Artist commentary
Terarra Linding, a.k.a. "Meltdown"
She's the mechanic and driver for the R-Force, packing attitude and spunk (as well as a gigantic tech boomerang that can slice cars in half). Always seen with a clever smile on her face, Terarra loves nothing more than to hear the roars of the engines in her cars. She may act like a bit of a ditz, but don't underestimate her, as she is an absolute GENIUS when it comes to mechanical knowledge and can fix, modify, and design virtually any vehicle you can imagine, provided with all the right materials. And yup, she DOES have that thick Aussie accent.
Aside from being a wild driver, she's also quite the party girl and can drink with the best of 'em.
When it comes to her power, the bio pretty much says it all (she didn't earn that codename for nothing, heh). There are few ways to adequately contain her in captivity, and her power can also be used for plasma-cutting or wielding if she has a need for it. Her tech boomerang is fitted with Verrocite crystals that give it an extra punch, better control, and also makes it immune to Terarra's heat (since Verrocite is reactive to its owner's Aura). As an Auran Sage, she was the most accepting of her Aura when it awakened, and quickly learned how to use it like a pro in her garage.

I had no idea that the coloring would take ALL DAY on this XD
I'm not quite sure of the results, but I admit that I like how her uniform turned out; it was my first attempt at the leather-look. Also, the yellow Verrocite crystals in her tech boomerang also turned out better than I was expecting (those dark, jagged parts is the core of the Verrocite crystals - they light up with charged, as you've probably seen in my Ancient Sages pics). Hopefully more to come here with the rest of the R-Force.

Terarra "Meltdown" Linding and the R-Force copyright Nick Hardin

Tagged as: boomerangs, force, horoes, kangaroos, sci, boomerangsforcehoroeskangaroossci Tekari Aia by *aelius http://www.furryartpile.com/view/1245/ Tue, 09 Jan 2007 17:10:33 -0800
Artist commentary
Tekari was once a slave under a wealthy Raikonian businessman who used her as one of his personal bodyguards (learning that she had an Auran power was the main reason why). As a result, Tekari was taught from a very young age how to fight and defend with ruthless efficiency. Yet her very personality seemed to contradict such a harsh way of living. The young mouse still maintains a shy, cautious demeanor and is constantly plagued by a lack of self-esteem (having been seen only as a fighter resulted in a lack of proper emotional development, despite the caretakers that tried to raise her while off-duty). Akosha and her crew happened to learn of this when they visited the businessman on invitation. Since the very idea of enslavement (especially the enslavement of an Auran) was rather unsettling to her, Akosha cleverly managed to trick Tekari’s owner into giving her up over a fixed gambling match, and the young mouse has since been traveling with the group.
Even at the age of eighteen, Tekari has shown to have fighting skills worthy of an aged master, but at the terrible price of a scarred emotional development from it (having the Auran power of invisibility hasn’t helped, as she is prone to hiding when scared). Thankfully, Akosha and Mai Tao have proven themselves to be gentle and caring to her and have been helping her through her insecurities.

I'm still not satisfied with the way she's holding her left weapon (the one on the right side), as it is more a result of a shoddy mirroring-job that I tried when I couldn't duplicate the other one. Still, I suppose I tried what I could from where I was at. I also might've over-did the shiny effects on her leg armor. Heh, still, I'm kinda proud of it. The brighter colors of her outfit really came out better than I was expecting.
Oh, the background? That's actually a manipulated photo from Mexico that I took while on a cruise. Visiting ancient ruins of the Mayans was really neat! They fit in with the background of Raikonia's 4th age (which is where the story here takes place) so it was great to put young Tekari in the middle of them.

Tekari Aia © Aelius (me)

Tagged as: auran, fantasy, mice, sci, auranfantasymicesci Eruka Neshha by *aelius http://www.furryartpile.com/view/1244/ Tue, 09 Jan 2007 17:08:52 -0800
Artist commentary
Another one of my Ancient Sages characters: Eruka.
She joined Akosha and her crew later on and proved to be a valuable (yet rather untamed) addition to the group on their journey to the Kingdoms in the East. Eruka was raised in what would probably be considered "tribal" culture, deep in an expansive forest. She was one of the few Aurans there and used that to her advantage in her hunts. She carries a very special bow, complete with Verrocite crystals inlaid within the framework, as well as a machete-like sword with which she had the fortune of being trained in Dao-style swordplay in using it. She is an efficient hunter and tracker, but her lack of exposure to modern technology has made her rather naive in more populated cities (plus, being raised in a culture whose females never wore tops garnered the expected reactions from Mikaou and Ri'kinto =P ). Even so, she is a very mature character with a dry sense of humor and a simple outlook on life, and hopes to broaden her horizons in traveling with Akosha's posse. When it comes to the Auran powers, she appears to have gift of wind-manipulation (turbo-kinesis? aero-kinesis?), which is the perfect power for an archer like herself.

Now, onto the pic itself....
I never was good at symmetry, so the bow does look rather off-balance (come to think of it, I seemed to have positioned the character a bit more off-center than I would've liked). Her outfit... well, it's a bit simpler than I would have liked, but I guess I can adjust that in time. Before long, however, the character began to rapidly develop and became her own character (much to my delight) and ended up earning her own place in my Auran storyline, during the same time period as my Ancient Sages like Akosha Terias and Mai Tao Ka. The result was a fiesty bunny pirate named Star who became captain of her own ship after helping her late husband in a mutiny against a corrupt admiral. Though she lost her husband in the final fight, she was given the admiral's ship and privateer captain status by the King. The original crew that followed her in the mutiny gladly volunteered to be her new crew and now sail with her through the oceans of ancient Raikonia.
Star has amazing charisma (her crew absolutely loves her and would do anything for their beloved captain), decent swordsmanship, and a truely wonderful singing voice (some remember hearing her at dusk, singing into the winds). She's also an experienced cartographer.

In reference to her appearance and origin, she is the ancestory of my bunnygirl Melon. Also, in keeping with the tradition of naming her family members after fruit, Star's name comes from the "starfruit."

Terragen was called upon once again for the wonderful background, and for the woodgrain effect I used a nifty little tutorial that I found at http://tutorials.kellishaver.com/

Captain Star © Aelius (me)

Tagged as: fantasy, pirates, rabbits, fantasypiratesrabbits Akosha Terias by *aelius http://www.furryartpile.com/view/1241/ Tue, 09 Jan 2007 17:05:37 -0800
Artist commentary
Next in my lineup of ancient Auran Sages is Akosha.
Many have considered her to be a prodigy when she began her training. As an Auran, she possesses a unique "hyper empath" trait that virtually radiates her every emotion to those around her. People are drawn to her leadership capabilities like moths to a flame, and her courage could inspire an entire army simply by standing among them. At the same time, her power allows her to feel the emotions of others. Her Aura is so sensitive that she at times feel the same things her friends are, from physical pain to emotional pain (something that she's had to train even harder to withstand).
But before her position as a leader and strategist, she was merely a traveller sent out to explore a mysterious kingdom in the East... and that's where the main story takes place.

Not long after being sent out, she met Mai Tao Ka and Mikaou A'Choe and discovered they too were on their way East, so they all joined together. A few towns later, they met Ri'kinto, and then there were four....

Akosha's power gives her a bit of a maternal instinct to those she travels with (her friends) and she could easily be considered their leader, for the very same reason. Some consider her wise, though she still retains a very cheerful and optimistic attitude throughout their travels (even at times when she's not smiling, such as her meditative position shown in the pic here). Another interesting note is her tolerance of cold, despite having minimal garments worn (minimal clothing was the main trend for Sages back in those times). It might have something to do with her being raised in the Northern Mountains during the first few years of her life, but regardless of the possible reasons, she can take it. The pic here, for instance... well, think of it in the same way that Buddhist monks will sometimes meditate completely nude under freezing cold waterfalls, to test their abilities to focus and concentrate.
Her unique eye color comes from a recessive gene in her bloodline; make note of it, because you'll see it again in the future... ;)

Making the pic, I tried to emply some faux-reflective effects for the Verrocite crystals in her scythe and armor, though shadows still seem to give me problems.

My next horse pic will be a front view, I promise XD

Akosha Terias © Nick Hardin
Background (and foreground) by Terragen.

Tagged as: aurans, fantasy, force, horses, mares, mature, sci, auransfantasyforcehorsesmaresmaturesci Mikaou A'Choe by *aelius http://www.furryartpile.com/view/1240/ Tue, 09 Jan 2007 17:02:54 -0800
Artist commentary
Next in my series of ancient Auran Sages, Mikaou also happens to be my first-ever attempt at drawing a horse. I think he turned out a lot better than I was expecting, though the head and ears are a bit big I think. Still, here he is!

As a Sage, his power mainly involves the healing of plant life, and he can also manipulate plants (such as growth) to a limited degree. This power has resulted in making him immune to most toxins and even substances like caffiene and alcohol. As a Sage, he's new to the fighting portion, but Sages aren't necessarily "just warriors". He's gentle and understanding, but a bit naive as well.
He currently travels with his friend Mai Tao on a mission to investigate the territories in the unknown regions of the East.

Heh, I made the mistake of drawing his tail BEHIND his sword despite it looking like it should be in front (I wanted to show off the sword's design and totally forgot about the concept of proper overlapping) so I tried to fix it in the shading and shadows, making it look like he's holding the sword at an angle.

Given a Mature label due to his exposed rump (fashion trends back in those days were... minimal).

Background provided, once again, by Terragen (I love that thing).

Mikaou A'Choe © Aelius (me)

Tagged as: fantasy, horses, mature, sci, swords, fantasyhorsesmaturesciswords Mai Tao Ka by *aelius http://www.furryartpile.com/view/1239/ Tue, 09 Jan 2007 16:59:23 -0800
Artist commentary
This pose and weapon set was heavily inspired by a pic of an anthro warrior from Steve Miller's book, "Freaks!" (I believe it was one of Brett Booth's works featured in the book).

Enter Mai Tao Ka, my first red panda anthro and also one of the ancient Auran Sages in a new storyline I developed with I was hit with a massive wave of creative inspiration last year. Her Auran power focuses on an extreme sense of total awareness - she will continually know every single detail about her surrounding and environment, making it virtually impossible to be taken by surprise or sneak attack, even by those using invisibility powers or psychic camouflage. Despite her intense training that led to her becoming a Sage, she is yet to experience an actual combat situation. That will soon change, of course...
The reason why her entire left arm is covered in armor is a secret that only her family and companion Mikaou knows of (perhaps its is one of the reasons she continues to venture into the unknown territories in the East).
She exists in the same universe as my R-Force characters, but in a time period that takes place centuries before the R-Force is even formed.

Mai Tao Ka is © Aelius (me)

Tagged as: aurans, fantasy, featured, force, pandas, red, sci, arrow, bow, female, pose, weapon, sword auransfantasyfeaturedforcepandasredsciarrowbowfemaleposeweaponsword Kitskune by *aelius http://www.furryartpile.com/view/1238/ Tue, 09 Jan 2007 16:55:19 -0800
Artist commentary
This is obviously the AC drawing I'm most proud of (to the point that I did some modifying in photoshop, as can be seen here).
The inspiration for this actually came from looking at some of the fursuits in the lobby. I noticed that one of the skunks had a distinctive fur pattern that LOOKED like it had more than one tail, but in reality it only had one. It made me think, though...
And a two-tailed skunk came as a result. The packs on her legs are miniature tool kits that can be removed if space or weight is a concern (though they don't really weigh that much anyway).
Jade's outfit leans more toward her upbringing as a ninja (the lacework inspired by a pic that gNAW drew of her at Anthrocon, I think she likes it ^_^).
Aquamarine is the techie of the group, and her uniform's "conservity" sort of reflects her own shyness during missions. Even so, she doesn't seem to have many qualms carrying all that gear, as there's never a lack of need for them.

Amethyst, Jade, Aquamarine, and this pic... are all © Nick Hardin (who is also me)
Check out the Jewel Vixens webcomic right here: www.jewelvixens.com

Tagged as: jewel, spy, technology, vixens, webcomics, jewelspytechnologyvixenswebcomics Aurelia by *aelius http://www.furryartpile.com/view/1236/ Tue, 09 Jan 2007 16:51:30 -0800
Artist commentary
Meet Aurelia Wolphex, also known as Aurawolf. Quiet and determined, quick and calculating, controlled and loose, Surge's fighting prowess is only advanced by his sheer electric potential, where he can generate lightning in the blink of an eye and take down a foe before they even realize what hit them. The only drawback to this is that he can't hit anyone holding a gun, as when electricity hits it makes muscles contract, making the opponent involuntarily pull the trigger.
This is his basic ShockSuit, though he normally wears a White Trenchcoat with it that acts as an aid (much like Freq's coat or R.D.'s cape) to the ShockSuit's functions. In Surge's case, he acts as a grounding aid as well as a method of absorbing electric energy better than his body can.
Don't even THINK of pulling a tazer gun on him. Rain Dancer (the pic itself is a few years old, hence the incorrect name - I changed her codename after the pic was posted), and her ShockSuit. There on the left are her two ninja swords, one having a blade twice the length of the other, and on the shorter one you can see the Verrocite core charging up. Another interesting note about these uniforms is that they sometimes require extra circuitry and such, so the wearer may need an extra item for the suit to complete its full function. In RD's case, it's her cape. Under the ultra-soft, friction-resistant fabric is a network of wires and circuits that add to the ShockSuit's capabilities. The suit also compliments the limitless agility of Lana herself, and even has special openings that release when she folds out her wings (wings are an Auran trait which I'll get to later on)

Tagged as: force, foxes, sci, technology, vixens, forcefoxesscitechnologyvixens Frequency's design by *aelius http://www.furryartpile.com/view/1229/ Tue, 09 Jan 2007 16:43:40 -0800
Artist commentary
Here's my tech-rabbit, Lemon ReNero (also known as Frequency).

Tagged as: rabbits, rabbits N'tera by *aelius http://www.furryartpile.com/view/1228/ Tue, 09 Jan 2007 16:41:51 -0800
Artist commentary
Here's an anthro you don't see everyday...
N'tera is the second of my shark fems, and has the most complete background/history out of all of them (unfortunately, it's taking me too long to find a place to introduce her story).
