He's a red jackal (not a fox), with a penchant for making sugary goodness. Here he is with his stainless steel oven peel and mixing bowl (there's also suppose to be a rolling pin, wire whisk, and a cutting knife, but they are not in this depiction). He can call open oven-hot fires to bake his dough, and maybe even make giant cookie golems of doom. Doom, I say.

I had quite an experience creating this. The conception was very basic, the only real change was that he was supposed to be shaking a wire whisk at the fourth wall, but that would've been beyond my skill level. I also like how I drew this face in this, it's a first for me. And finally, PhotoStudio was being a real b*tch while trying to draw this. However, it all turned out for the better, because I learned much in the ways of digital art. Needless to say, I'm overjoyed with how this came out. His smaller "form" Ursa Minor, a.k.a. Umi, is a sort of bear cub with horns. I was inspired by the behemoths of Final Fantasy fame (you can see it there), and wanted to draw something similar. I got the horns, bulking muscle, and the little goatee on his chin. And those are fangs popping out his abnormally short muzzle; I can't quite explain the exact reasonings behind Uma's details. I was thinking of adding a bow tie or a bell-n-collar combo, but decided against it because of the chin hairs. He also doesn't have a tail, I was debating whether to give him one or not, considering his main components are that of the mighty bear and powerful gorilla (you can see it there). And then of course there's the random spiky hair, gotta have the spiky hair, yo'.

I had a bit of fun drawing this, utilizing the variety between a mechanical pencil and a #2, one for lines and the other for shading. I think I did a pretty decent job with this.

As for Cherry, she's similar to her most recent picture, except I hiked up her dress a bit to show off some heeled boots (I was inspired by Dorothy in "Oz: the Manga" by David Hutchison). She also has a large butterfly clip pinning the hair to the back of her head; looks a bit off, that and I forgot to give her curly bangs and horns. Oh well, next time.

I was a bit relieved, of all things, to draw this. It's been a while since I've uploaded anything reminiscent of my sketches, and this piece has brought me back to the days when I could draw like a second nature. Time to continue with it. Our journey has come across an unforeseeable hindrance manifested as a fierce oceanic storm, though shouldn't be more than a day or two. Luckily, a nearby church of the goddess Okeanos has provided shelter for us both, and though my disguise hides well my arcane powers the clergy men - a pod of dolphins - grow subtle suspicious of my nature. Regardless their paranoid glances I've managed to politely interrogate the meaning of a particularly eye-catching monument, depicting in text the epic battle between the ancient High Cardinal Galileo and a daemonic water monster. I knew and felt instantly that this vaguely-described beast had been the spike of energy I felt over a fort night ago; it was clawing its way from the underworld to the surface, and I was intent to hire its power into my ranks of metaphysical and damned beasties.

The evening the storm died down enough for safe passage, I set out across the ocean, sensing that with the waxing moon I'd have ideal conditions to bring the monster up from the depths. The spot where the ancient clergy man condemned his foe to Hell couldn't have been more obvious: a strikingly still spot of water amongst the otherwise writhing wave. With the air let from my billows, I instructed Ceraf to form into the arcane runes and circles necessary for this feat; I knew very well my own knowledge would not be quite enough.

The full moon high over head, I used it as anchor before descending my necromantic chains into the portal provided by my dear familiar, and in a matter of seconds something tugged at my line. I could feel my heart beating in my throat with excitement; instantly I reeled in my catch and gazed triumphantly at the prize I'd won: orcinus orca. My runic circle told that his time in Hell could very well have been over 10 millennium though only 3 centuries in the physical realm (according to the dolphins), and strength unrivaled by anything I'd come across yet.

Then the most curious thing happened: bands of golden runes wrapped around his ivory muscle and sinew, a gentle aura encased in his limp body, tethered in my necromantic chains. These runes were no mystery to me, except their context on this leviathan was nothing short of bewildering. Could they have been the holy bondage and seals placed upon the saintly dolphin so many years ago? I soon found that these bands were cast by none other than the very orca hanging before me, his unconcious head rolled back behind his shoulders, as if a rag doll.

A metaphorical blow between the eyes came at the realization of what, or rather whom, I caught in my chains: High Cardinal Galileo, and the sudden recall that orcas are, in fact, very large dolphins.

~

Spent a week on this, a-yup, at least. A real maiden voyage, this was; first time I "lightly" sketched anything (to great results), and I finally learned a good number of excellent tricks with PhotoStudio, and using layers to my supreme advantage.

© Me

Tagged as: featured, lion, magic, male, muscle, orca, featuredlionmagicmalemuscleorca
