My subject is Cap'n Tsubasa's Sammy. I've touched a little naughtier summer theme, hopefully without being inappropriately offensive or disrespectful. I think I originally planned for this to be a Varia piece, but I decided to go with a better character design. Not great by any means, and if I should ever revisit, her hand would need to be reworked.

I find it hand to keep a set of predefined tools that I can quickly select when I want to get into these sketch modes. I have much more to learn about Photoshop, however.

Again, thank you for the visit.

Tagged as: adult, breasts, cap, capntsubasa, creamsicle, erotic, erotica, female, furry, icecream, mature, mouse, photoshop, popsicle, sammy, summer, sweating, adultbreastscapcapntsubasacreamsicleeroticeroticafemalefurryicecreammaturemousephotoshoppopsiclesammysummersweating Chess Knight by ♥madplumber http://www.furryartpile.com/view/47788/ Thu, 17 Jul 2008 18:44:43 -0700
Artist commentary
Thank you very much for visiting.

When I was introduced to AutoCAD back in high school, I was highly interested in its three-dimensional capabilities. While other students were still learning how to offset and copy line segments, I was building goofy three-dimensional ships which caught the attention of the student aid. I had been using AutoCAD since version R 13, which didn't have all those GUI features that most of you typically expect from professional software. Maybe because of that, I am by habit mostly a keyboard user of AutoCAD, in that I typically type out commands instead of selecting their graphical counterpart on the screen interface.

When I took further AutoCAD classes in college, my understanding of solid modeling was improved and I learned of how vastly superior it was to using polygonal faces. In fact, after a few lessons in solid modeling, I retreated to a computer terminal in the student lab and began drawing from scratch this model that you see. After a few years, I thought I'd dust it off, make a new rendering, and explain a little about the process involved about making a model like this.

In the documentaries about the Lisberger film Tron, they explain how Syd Mead's light cycles were constructed. Roughly, predefined volumes (spheres, boxes, cones, etc.)are added, subtracted, or intersected with one another to create further shapes which define what the light cycle's shape ultimately is. This is very similar to solid modeling, but you don't need to rely on a limited library of predefined primitive volumes to make your models.

Looking at the top portion of the Chess piece in this rendering, you can see that it's complexity is mostly two-dimensional. When I started this model, I most likely jumped to the YZ plane and started building the rough linework of the knight's profile. I usually start all my works by drawing two XLINEs, or continuous lines, horizontally and vertically. I then OFFSET, or created a copy perpendicular to the original, the vertical construction line 0.75 to both sides to roughly symbolize the width of a Chess square knowing that my model had to properly fit within its regions.

I then began construction of the major shape of my knight's profile using CIRCLEs, LINEs, and XLINES. Please note that I largely feel that commands like ARC and PLINE are largely obsolete and that it's easier to create arcs from TRIMmed circles and to ultimately define a connected polyline by using PEDIT. I would have used OFFSET as well as RAYs generated from a common centerpoint to draw the knight's mane. When I had finally completed my polyline profiles, I would then EXTRUDE them to convert them into solid geometry. I would round many of the edges on the model using FILLET. The base for the knight was very simple; I merely created a POLYGON, EXTRUDEd it, and performed a CHAMFER on the top. Geometry would be added or subtracted from one another using commands such as UNION, SUBTRACT, or INTERSECT.

I had also drawn other Chess figures for this project and I felt that none of them could really hold a candle to my original knight; my pawns were especially pathetic. You can catch glimpses of these models in the reflections of the Chess board squares.

AutoCAD is excellent software, but not the best choice for creating graphical representations. You'll note that the view of this rendering is "parallel", not "perspective". "Parallel" roughly means that objects do not get smaller as that they become farther from the viewer. AutoCAD does have a "perspective" view option, but it has utterly failed to perfect it and I've found that it's caused too many problems when I try to implement it. Thus, AutoCAD is great for graphically representing projects, but it is below par for a graphics program.

An interesting thing I did with this model while I was still working for the college was testing it in our new fancy 3D printer. While the printer couldn't catch the finer details of the knight's construction, I was still highly impressed by it functionality.

Again, thank you for the visit.

Tagged as: autocad, cad, chess, digital, knight, render, solidmodel, solidmodeling, threedimensional, autocadcadchessdigitalknightrendersolidmodelsolidmodelingthreedimensional Nailkaizer Sketch by ♥madplumber http://www.furryartpile.com/view/41184/ Sun, 06 Jul 2008 22:30:46 -0700
Artist commentary
It's good to be bad.

Thank you very much for visiting. Advanced criticism and professional advice are strongly encouraged.

This is one of my at-work sketches further touched up heavily in Photoshop. The subject of this sketch is the villainous Nailkaizer from the hentai series Angel Blade. Angel Blade was very inspirational in how I wanted to develop my own drawing skills ... and man, have I failed miserably; I'll be getting death threats from Masami Obari tomorrow.

Not particularly great, but I really felt that Nailkaizer's lips in this piece have been the best lips I've drawn so far. They were sort of haphazard, but I can say without extreme ego that I like very much how they came out and that I'd certainly like future lips drawn just as well or better.

Angel Blade is a series where I just can't help but root for the bad guys. Nailkaizer was a subject I wanted to take on earlier as my career as The Mad Plumber, but my drawings were coming out very mediocre. After I had drawn Nailkaizer's head in this sketch, I was inspired to incorporate its shape into my style, and sketches I made after this one were efforts to replicate it.

Anyways, I hope I should continue to improve significantly from here. I downloaded this Don Adams production photograph to my work terminal and worked on this in my sketchbook during my lunch hour. This goes back to my drawing efforts in high school when I tried drawing photographs of significant political figures such as FDR or Hitler, but drawing them in an incorrect fashion and certainly not utilizing adequate graphites. Don Adams as a subject was a totally random choice and a desire to keep things light.

Those of you with Photoshop can certainly see my most egregious follies that I wish I had detected earlier. When I got further into finishing this sketch, I found out how much more disproportionate this was than I originally thought. The face, however, was what bothered me the most and I felt that no matter how hard I tried and how much I added and refined, I could not make the face look like Don Adams'. Then it struck me: "Don Adams has a big head and little beady eyes." Hence, we go back to my disproportion. To me, Don Adams in this sketch really looks like your typical WASP.

Since I realize what my greatest error in this piece is, I probably would appreciate criticism that more centered around the values. I may have completely run out of 8Bs in my efforts to complete this as far as I wanted to. I purchase Kimberly 8Bs because they sell them individually. I also found it really hard to work off of a photo with such miserable resolution.

It is my hopes that my next subject will turn out far better than this one has. The concept of PlayMouse as a magazine tickled my interest, and not merely for the broadcasting of illustrated erotica, but also for posting multiple subjects (i.e. entertainment, computers, etc.) that would interest reader that enjoy the erotica. I suppose it is dumb luck that while I was operating on this piece that PlayMouse opened several of its features back up. I wish the best of luck to PlayMouse and hope that it serves as an interesting forum to post to as opposed to say another laughably-managed, idiot-filled, fur-oriented forum whose name escapes my mind.

I suppose it is also luck that I finished this final draft when I did, managing to make it before February was over. I've been horribly distracted in my efforts to operate on this piece and I am still grossly disappointed in my work. Misproportioning during my sketching had to be corrected often. Varia's appearance is based on my efforts to emulate Masami Ōbari and other erotic manga artists. The piece is completely digital and produced entirely in Photoshop. I am considering moving on to Corel Painter for future works, but quality of my style is a more pressing issue.

Thanks again for the visit!

Tagged as: cat, cover, ecchi, erotic, erotica, featured, feline, female, furotica, japaneseamerican, magazine, magazinecover, mature, playmouse, varia, catcoverecchieroticeroticafeaturedfelinefemalefuroticajapaneseamericanmagazinemagazinecovermatureplaymousevaria Varia Sketch III by ♥madplumber http://www.furryartpile.com/view/29492/ Sun, 27 Jan 2008 15:02:27 -0800
Artist commentary
Thank you very much for visiting. Advanced criticism and professional advice are strongly encouraged.

This is the progress of my current project ... and considering how long it has been since I started it, the progress is laughable. This drawing is completely digital, built from scratch in Photoshop. I modified the original lineart to improve severe flaws such as her feet, her arm, her weight, and her breasts.

Eventually, at some point along working on this one, my digital inking fell into the background layer, which meant I needed to fabricate a means of drawing it into another layer with the white regions rendered transparent. A forum administrator supplied a method to achieve this, and thus allowing me to also color the lines of this piece.

I built a Photoshop swatch palette, sampling colors from my previous work and other's drawings. Because of my colorblindness, I need to label my colors by purpose or part. Something I also tried out for this piece was making the figure's outside lines bolder than the inside, in hopes that the lineart would show out better in a thumbnail. Since I am trying to model my style around Masami Obari and other erotic manga, I am doubting if I will ever try that again. Ten f***ing days. That's how long they said they'd be out fixing my notebook. So, for ten days, no Photoshop, no Illustrator, no Visual Studio, no Maya, no nothing. So, during this period of horrendous withdrawal from my little, black sanctuary, I will work on practicing via my sketch pad and various literature. I can probably also do some critical thinking in regards to inventing a new 52-card deck game. ONCE AGAIN, another artist has taken MY CHARACTER and drawn her fantastically better than I could (you rotten bastards). So, I felt I needed another refinement in style and the one aspect that I felt I should work on is eyes. So, I started up Photoshop and drew roughly the eyes you see in this piece. Well, after I drew them, it sparked my curiosity to see how they would look next to Varia's nose and a mouth. After I had composed a face, I drew a head around it, and the drawing continued to evolve backwards. I suppose I know that I should have been drawing the other way, but this was design and not straight illustration.

Masami Obari is an artist whose style I am efforting to craft my own style around. Tragically, I have no style and everything is very much improvised for me. I see the importance of designing a face as being the keystone of a successful style. I consider the face a window into the entire style; if the face is not exciting, then the style generally has no value. Masami was the general influence on what I tried to do, but for some reason I see more so Dean Yeagle or "Twilight Princess" in the eyes of this work. Ha, there's a joke: me comparing myself to good artists.

I'll have to dig out some of my water fetish magazines for photo references as the final drawing will need to include something I've not drawn before and I want to do it right.

Hopefully, there will be more on this later. Thanks for visiting!

Tagged as: cat, digital, feline, female, photoshop, sketch, varia, wip, catdigitalfelinefemalephotoshopsketchvariawip Framed Spheres by ♥madplumber http://www.furryartpile.com/view/18483/ Sat, 18 Aug 2007 13:42:39 -0700
Artist commentary
Thank you very much for visiting! Advanced criticism and profession advice are strongly encouraged.

If I'm stuck in a rut or only privileged with a brief amount of time or unsatisfactory environment to begin a new project, I sometimes just simply produce generic backgrounds that I can use for future projects. I might use Photoshop to scribble some random colors and then apply a Gaussian blur to it, I might generate various tile patterns in Tile Studio, or I might create integrations of both. Here is an example of me creating a generic background using Alias Maya animation software. However, this is really more so an experiment in boolean operations and render materials.

Boolean operations in Maya are, for me, comparable to AutoCAD's solid modeling operations. In AutoCAD solid modeling, users can create complex solid geometry by selecting multiple geometric entities and choosing whether to combine them, subtract from them, or include only where they intersect. After I've learned more about constructing polylines and got better proficient in AutoCAD, I've learned to better appreciate the solid modeling functions of AutoCAD more. Maya, however, is a little more tricky, and it has been my disappointment that the boolean functions of Maya do not work 100% of the time I want them to or expect them to. And that's the kicker, because Alias Maya is now owned by Autodesk, so it leaves to wonder why one software cannot perform an operation as well as another software by the same company.

The frame of the objects you see were produced using Maya's boolean operations. Primitive NURBS spheres and cylinders were created to make up the basic shapes of the frame, and further spheres were produced to "subtract" from the corner spheres, creating the concave indentations that you see. The center sphere is again another NURBS sphere.

If this drawing is in anyways likable, I feel Maya is more so to thank than me for its texture rendering capabilities. The two materials I created from scratch were the Phong textures used on the frames and spheres. I find it very nice how it looks to create reflective materials on spherical shapes. However, I am further impressed by the ocean texture that Maya provided. I created a NURBS plane and increased its scale to a large enough degree so that it would appears enough like a horizon line to the human eye. However, in the future, I think I might rather use a large scale hemisphere instead since it is a sphere that we live on. I don't know; maybe that's being too obsessive. Plus, I don't know how well that texture would render on a spherical object.

I didn't toy with backgrounds as of yet because I am not sure if a background would appear rendered on a spherical object and I didn't know where to get any good quality public domain backgrounds. So I figure black works for now. The render time was probably approximately three minutes for that one image.

I think I will use this background for the puzzle game I am reworking right now, much in the same way they had computer drawing background images of Moscow for those old Tetris games. A man whose spent years working as an AutoCAD draftsman could be easily vexed by programs like Alias Maya or Adobe Illustrator where scientific accuracy is non-existent. Because of the one critical matter of having a hypotenuse tangent to two fillets, I actually started this out in AutoCAD as opposed to Illustrator. I built the polylines as accurate as I could with the program, exported the drawing as a DXF, imported it into Illustrator, and performed the remaining tasks of stylizing the lines and turning the shapes into clipping masks for a gradient pattern. I also sheared the logo by 15 degrees, which leaves further to question why I started in AutoCAD! Well, like I said, I've been using AutoCAD for many years and I'm usually faster with that program than I am with others.

I had alternate plans with this, but I'm terribly busy and I think I'll leave it as it is for now. There's no need to overexert myself over this.

Thanks for visiting!

Tagged as: autocad, color, fap, furryartpile, gradient, illustrator, logo, vector, autocadcolorfapfurryartpilegradientillustratorlogovector Varia: Lingerie Model (Revisions) by ♥madplumber http://www.furryartpile.com/view/14881/ Sun, 15 Jul 2007 18:08:35 -0700
Artist commentary
Thank you very much for visiting! Critical feedback is strongly desired.

[Hobb's End], [Fat Panda], and [the Captain] were gracious enough to deliver helpful feedback on my latest work, [Varia: Lingerie Model]. I wasn't originally planning on releasing the line art, but the project is taking me so long and I'd really enjoy getting some feedback now. It is truly a bad mark on me that it takes me so long to make something of this meager quality and others are capable of doing twenty times better than this in substantially less time. With my time being taxed between two jobs and my free time harrassed by my family's obsession with television, my productivity has been compromised.

Like "Asreal" before, this work is completely digital, having been built from scratch in Photoshop. I do not know much about the character and it is my hope that I do not bring offense to it with my liberal interpretation or meager skills. Fat Panda's design for the character can be seen [here]; I strongly encourage people to see it as well as his interpretation of my character Varia which can be seen [here].

The significance of this drawing is that it is my first entirely-digital image. This drawing was built from scratch in Photoshop, and maybe I'm getting mildly better at using it. The one thing I learned is that I need to STOP PUTTING THE TABLET ON THE SIDE OF THE NOTEBOOK! PUT IT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DESK, YOU STUPID IDIOT! GOD, I'M DUMB! Being colorblind, I had to solicit help from my sister in choosing a few of the swatches. I was uncertain as to whether I should have just stopped with the line art or go ahead on and try to color. My choice of colors does need to be a subject of criticism. I also found out while sketching that I was able to save my brush setting in my brushes and tools, which is helpful when I divert my attention to other projects temporarily. In the original Photoshop file, I set my brush to 100% hardness, 20% flow, and airbrush mode. I found this setting helpful when sculpting the figure. Also, the ability to throw on other layers provides a level of security for me.

Again, I am grateful for your visit and would encourage you to visit [Fat Panda's gallery].

Tagged as: asreal, blonde, cigarette, color, digital, dress, fanart, fatpanda, female, furry, gloves, pearls, photoshop, skunk, streak, woman, asrealblondecigarettecolordigitaldressfanartfatpandafemalefurryglovespearlsphotoshopskunkstreakwoman Varia Sketch I by ♥madplumber http://www.furryartpile.com/view/12929/ Tue, 05 Jun 2007 17:43:52 -0700
Artist commentary
Thank you very much for visiting. Advanced criticism and professional advice are encouraged.

This is a sketch of my character Varia that I did at work today ... because I'm so ethical. I once asked advice from an artist and her tip was to drawn something everyday. Well, it's hard to keep up with that regime when your soul is being pummeled to death. Nevertheless, I try.

By my perspective, given that I had done this without any outside reference save a small one from an anatomy book, maybe I am not doing so bad. BUT IT'S NOT GREAT. And that is why I value feedback.

I'm experimenting a little with this character, testing out what I can or can't do with Varia. However, when summer came around, that's when I started getting cabin fever and I needed to start taking my work outside. However, then the difficulty came in choosing an adequate station outside to work. The benches are totally uncomfortable and there are no trees I can rest against without getting a head or keister full of ants. I ultimately chose to rest against this hideous bronze sculpture in the middle of the campus.

Working outside, you don't have all of your desired resources available to you, and you can't work on more suggestive works without spending much time looking over your shoulder. Anyway, these are a few sketches I worked on outside.

One thing I learned was that I am not very impressed with the Prismacolor marker I bought: not very smooth. Another thing I might have learned is a little improvement of my process. I have taken to using a blue-colored pencil for my initial sketch, an orange-colored pencil for my shape composite, and finally graphite for the final sketch.

The Bugs Bunny sketch reflects other exercises I am trying to import into my manga practice.

Thank you for visiting and I hope you enjoyed the image!

Tagged as: bugs, bugsbunny, cat, chuckjones, feline, hare, looneytunes, merriemelodies, practice, rabbit, sketch, sketches, bugsbugsbunnycatchuckjonesfelineharelooneytunesmerriemelodiespracticerabbitsketchsketches The Making Of quot Hello Kitty quot by ♥madplumber http://www.furryartpile.com/view/12349/ Sat, 26 May 2007 17:18:50 -0700
Artist commentary
As always, thank you very much for choosing to view my submission. Advanced criticism and professional advice are very welcome, and I cannot stress that enough. This particular submission should not only be about giving everyone insight as to my methodology of producing the work, but it should also be about critiquing me, berating me, tearing me a new a**hole about my inefficiencies and weaknesses. I would really hope it would be about those with more experience telling me, "No, you did it wrong. Do it THIS way." Nevertheless, any comment and impression is welcome and I am grateful for your visit.

In the first image, you see the genesis of Varia as a tablet sketch in Photoshop. This image seems largely indicative to me of my poor illustration skills and my further suckiness at tablet drawing. I think the breast shape somewhat indicates that I was a little inspired by either Yves Bigerel or LimeyKat. It was my initial hope that the drawing would be purely digital, like say sketches by Bokuman. However, I ended up printing the sketch out and using it as the basis of producing my pencil drawing seen in image #2.

My next efforts, after scanning and transporting back to Photoshop, were to isolate the outlines by fiddling around with brightness and contrast and probably further highlighting my desired lines. A modification made in Photoshop was making her posterior larger; big-breasted women should not have chicken asses. Another modification made was adjusting the position of Varia's right ear. Why I did not do these correctly on paper first is beyond me. Throughout the drawing, I spent much time cleaning up the lineart.

By image #4, most of the base colors have been filled in. I should mention that I was using the Pencil tool and making adjustments pixel-by-pixel, which in retrospect seems excessively anal-retentive. My PSD file, in fact, features no anti-aliased colors. In image #5, I've created new layers and given them lessened opacities that they would serve as the highlights on Varia's breasts and the shadows on her body and corneas.

In image #6, new layers are built for the gloss of Varia's hair. It is first roughed in and then, by image #7, cleaned up. Around the time of image #5, I created the background by just scribbling colors and applying filters. I made my copyright signature, resized the image, and output the JPEG for exhibition.

Being colorblind, my selection of colors should be another topic of critiquing. I assumed that there are certain liberties for furry characters, but I still am fearful for creating a sickly color. Varia's fur is #FFF468.

Again, thank you very much for visiting. Your input will be largely appreciated.

A final note: the bricks were made by me in Tile Studio. Thank you.

Tagged as: bikini, cat, ecchi, erotic, erotica, feline, female, making, mature, nude, nudity, photoshop, process, tutorial, varia, bikinicatecchieroticeroticafelinefemalemakingmaturenudenudityphotoshopprocesstutorialvaria Hello, Kitty! by ♥madplumber http://www.furryartpile.com/view/8737/ Tue, 20 Mar 2007 18:51:32 -0700
Artist commentary
The Who said, "It's Hard", and I believe them. I hope that this is merely humble beginnings and that I capable of doing far better than this. It probably took me a month to produce the final edition of this drawing, and I know how everyone else is able to do it so much faster. Please understand that I don't have much experience as I have spent the last ten years studying business and drafting, so I am really starting as a rookie in this art of liberal illustration.

This illustration also marks my first significant usage of Photoshop, also. I'm afraid I'm not as proficient or efficient with it as others and I wish I knew their secrets. I was hoping that the drawing would be purely digital, but I ultimately ended up doing my key sketch on a regular piece of Xerox paper. In Photoshop, I cleaned up the line quality, applied colors, and emulated the lighting and shadow.

Again, thank you for visiting my artwork and I hope I may be able to impress you with future pieces.

Tagged as: adult, bikini, cat, ecchi, erotic, erotica, featured, feline, female, furotica, furry, mature, nude, nudity, softcore, varia, adultbikinicatecchieroticeroticafeaturedfelinefemalefuroticafurrymaturenudenuditysoftcorevaria
