my futurePosted 1 month ago
well, ive doing some thinking, and a bit of talking with malaka.......and I want to know, should I leave the furry community, or become less involved in it? Seems like nothing good is coming of it anymore, and out of the whole thing, ive only got 10 or 15 friends in the whole fandom......tops. Its just slowly gone downhill. No one wishes to just chat or to be there to make new friends, they are all here to just kiss up to you and ask for free art, and you never hear from them until they want something or when they want you to comment on something. I keep feeling like people just use me because Im a artist and i draw for free, and only to have someone tell me *mostly malaka* that i should have not done that or that I should have blocked them or never talked to them because of how they treat me or how they are to others. I know Ive told alot of people I was either going to drop FA or just post art for my friends...but I dont feel as though thats going to be enough, it feels like i just need to leave it alone. I just dont know what to do really

I consider Furry like a videogame: You involve yourself because you personally enjoy it, not for idolizing, fame or fortune. If you do it too much, it becomes an obsession and/or can lead to boredom, thus losing the Fun Factor that was originally the intent of its presence. It's just like comparing a person that draws porn to a person that does not; they do their choice preference because it's fun for them, but they don't draw the same thing all the time. Just like Videogames, everyone in the fandom seeks variety so nothing becomes repetitive to the point of feeling that it's not worth doing anymore. And like a videogame, there are difficulties that you can and can't handle. In those cases, you just have to try harder and learn from previous experiences to better your performance.
You should be asking yourself if you are enjoying what you are doing. If not, then you should be asking yourself what you can do to make it more enjoyable. The honest fact of the matter is that you can't always depend on others to give you the answer, only small tidbits of advice. It will still come down to you needing to think for yourself about how you feel on the topic at hand and what you plan to do in order to have a change that can be considered acceptable. From the way I see it, you have 2 choices: Run away from it, or learn from it. Running just means you'll make the same mistakes endlessly without gaining any progress, while learning would still give you faults, but you would be able to see it and make it better.
I guess the point I'm making is that you should take to Furry as you take to videogames: Do it for fun, not to live.

I'll be honest, I love to lose in games. Winning can be easy and quickly become repetitive to the point that you can't gain any satisfaction because it's never a challenge. At least with losing, you can learn from your faults and perfect them. I always have a ball losing, seeming as if it's the best thing in the world. I usually end up finding out things from my loses and using it to my advantage to better my chances towards victory. You will never be able to appease everyone, so you should not try to do such. Instead, do what you do and enjoy it to the best of your ability. Just remember that comments are nothing more than open-minded opinions, not facts...so don't let them be a reason for you to change what you do, moreso and most definitely towards the negatives. If you are to change anything, do it for your own personal benefit and not to an individual that does not approve. Always be willing to accept all forms of comments, be it good or bad. Have a neutral approach about everything and let your thoughts be the final action after considering all that will take effect.

I enjoy shooting the shit with other artists, but it seems that our pats on the back and snickers at in-jokes and such are being bogged down in a Quagmire (giggity giggity) of furs looking for a free this or a little that.
I don't mind spreading my talent around (what little of it I have) but using my talent for non-selfish purposes takes time and money from me.
I welcome art trades and commissions, but whenever someone marches into my inbox and says "draw this plz" I have to break down and say no.
Bigshow, I hope you find some sort of nexus, a center of peace in this fandom that can provide you the peace of mind and the creative input you deserve.

I know how you feel about people mooching you for free art, heck I had the same problem at the Boys and Girls Club I went to. Some of the teens I know asked me for art and it got pretty annoying. I only have one fur friend in RL, so it is a little lonely. It bugs (sometimes embarrasses) me when I have to explain to people why I draw the anthros that I draw.
but maybe it's me being young and naive.
You just do whatever floats your boat, or whatever makes life's waves easier to bear.

Now, its just how the furry community on the places I use to be have just went down hill soo fast, and people only beleaving in what they want to other than the truth and or not taking sides with things if they arnt too sure on what it is they are standing on *which ive done a few times but now I only try to do it when its for a good cause* i hear so much junk about off he is doing this for the site, and ohh that guy is talking about my FA and all that.....and non of them even knows what the real truth is. And some of these folks that ask for art just to gain popularity *they know who they are, but I think they arnt on fap due to the lacking of ego strokage* they are the ones thats getting to me...some do it for free art, and in turn be annouying....and others want you to check out something of they're, and rate it, but then when it comes to your art, you get nothing from them.....even if you didnt ask them, you gt no answer out of them at all. And malaka, myr, and a few others have woke me up to the fact that i either have to run them off, or just limit my time there. Some tell me to leave, some say stay....and some just have mixed feelings. most of the ones ive talked to have said that they want me to stay....but i dunno. i might do it for my friends and block nearly all the fanboys, ratings aint squat to when I know i truely do it for my friends and not the others......and id happy block them all if it came to it. really. But FA is down, the FA fanboys are here making theyre presence felt, causing drama. and the ones that wish for FAP to return to what it was.....are just sitting in the outfield looking at whats going on and shaking there heads
ohh well, I guess here with frineds is better than nothing

I'm still a little wet behind the ears about the fandom even though I've been in for some time. I've seen that drama on FA and DA quite a bit though, it's pretty annoying to me and I don't really see any point in posting a journal about someone dissing your art or page. I like llamas but not drama llamas.
Now, people who ask for art just to be popular, I can totally agree with you! Hehe in 8th grade, I remember drawing a very good pic of Hyper Knuckles and then I gave it someone like an young gullible ass. Unfortunately, the bastard RE-inked it with permanent marker (making the lines really dark and messing up the pic entirely) and then showing it to rest of the class. The guy even scratched off my signature!
whoops that's stealing but same
okay okay, went on a little tangent back to topic
Yeah, the furry community on some sites have broken down fast. I remember when I used to love meeting new furs on DA but now...gone. FA was my new fur home but the community sometimes acts like a dysfunctional family. You got some good people, but a lot drama that you have to go through to see those good people.
sorry if I'm not making sense, gabbing too much or retelling you your words. ^^;

My advice is that you stick around in the fandom, being active or passive, and that you make art for the ones who really deserves that, not for the ones that wants some free art. Life is not having things for free, people have to make effort to get what they want, and they should know that.

And I'd talk to ya if you want someone to talk to; I just always wait for someone to approach me with the offer normally. I'm kinda reclusive like that.
