      I've got an application called NJStar that I use for transcribing Japanese. You just type in the Romanji (latin characters) and it spits out hiragana, katakana, or kanji, depending what you need/have selected. It's not a translator, so you have to know what you want to say before you start writing, but it works out... I'm told by my Japanese friends that you can do it in MS Word as well and I got it to work once and haven't been able to recreate it...

         Or do you just mean spelling it out like kuso above? =+P

            Yup, that's it! You just spell it out the Japanese text in Romanji and it comes out in hiragana, katakana or kanji... NJStar is a good program and it has a free trial version that works great. The only problem is that it is a Windows-based app. Nothing for Mac at this point, so, if I want to use it, I've got to switch off my Mac and fire up the Windows space heater I have...

               Guess I'm lucky, I still haven't fully migrated to Ubuntu Linux yet due to bringing work home. No Mac here yet, still not satisfied yet with them, but don't take that as an insult. I really do prefer the coding structure of a Mac, but it is not as adadptable as I require so far. So I am still hoping the open source community with linux will help me shred my ties with microsuck.=+P
