Crap on a Cracker!!!

Posted 1 month ago

All I've been getting all evening is this every time I would post a reply or switch pages:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@furryartpile.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

What is this? FA? Annoying

Well, actually, it's called "caviar", but you can still flick it off and enjoy your cracker.

The administrator said that another influx of users has taxed the site's resources and that he had to invest in another server, I believe. What the hell are Fur Affinity's users doing here? They're not even going to stay! It's like they need some place to vandalize. I hope that Fur Affinity gets back in order so that this place can return to a peaceful calm.

Yup. The sudden influx of folks who used to live exclusively on FA has certainly changed things, not all for the better either... There are some really good artists who have washed up here, no question, but, as I mentioned to broharl, with the refugee population has come a loss of the old "small town feel" that FAP used to have... And I seriously doubt the newcomers are going to flock back to FA right away either. Nope, I think the demographics here have changed for good, sad to say. Sorry to seem like Eeyore, but that's what I'm thinking...

Anyway, thanx for the advice on the caviar! I always thought it was pretty pretentious as a food item anyway and Sammy hates it!

Yeah, I guess every site has to go through it... I just think that FAP is losing that kinda "small town feel" it used to have...

Knowing a little bit about how web servers and database servers work, and a bit about error codes, "500 Internal Server Error" is pretty much a catch-all for when a server is having a problem, but cannot be more specific. It's definitely server-side.

Remember back when FA would occasionally pop up the message "Too many connections! Try again later." They had to do a bit of hardware upgrades and software fixes before that went away. I think the same is happening here. It just can't handle all the traffic.

I'm thinking that FAP is still too "little" in terms of raw power. It's understandably a little overwhelmed right now, as more and more refugees from FA filter in. Once FA is back up, some people will stay here, but most will go back there, and FAP will be running smoothly again.

I'm not a whiz on servers or server software, but you're prolly right... Too many refugees from FA have parachuted in over the course of the last couple weeks and the FAP servers can't handle the numbers...

Oh well... Maybe it will be a passing thing...

      Thanx Tremmie!

Have you talked to the moocow?

Also, lol, funny enough, as I tried to load his page, I got this error, and then when I tried to post to this journal, I got the same error.

Nope, didn't even know who ekigyuu was until you posted this... Wonder if it's too many folks trying to post stuff at the same time...

      Thanx!

Posted a copy of the error, using Safari right now so I can comment. =+P
Empty words of adulation and appreciation do not allow an artist to grow. Overly critical and out right attacks on an artists' work are even more damaging.

Yeah, I'm using Safari as well on both my Mac and my Windows machine... Now that it's getting late even here on the West Coast, I'm not getting the errors...

      Thanx!

A web saavy fellow named Carlos here informed me that this is a usual occurance when the server host is updating files. Don't know if that helps. =+S

Yup, yup, and thanx! There's gotta be something there about the number of folks using the site that is causing problems as well, but c'est la vie!

          Thanx again!

With everyone leaving FA, and coming here you can expect to see a lot more things like that in the future. This site will soon start to crash like FA does, mainly because too many new people are signing up at the same time. What happened to this once small "problemless" community we used to have?

Comment from *capntsubasa, 1 month ago (#134751)

I think it may be gone for good, sad to say... Even when FA gets itself back online, I'm thinking that there isn't going to be the mad rush back there that everyone seems to think... Even if, say, only 80% go back, that will still leave quite an impressive number of "new" folks here...

I don't want to sound like some "hot-shot long time FAP Veteran", but I certainly liked the days when this site only had minimum coverage. Like mentioned in my latest blog, I remember doing "browse" searches and seeing things I posted months ago, now when I do browses it takes a while for images I posted hours ago to show up. I'll rush back to FA as soon as it comes back on...to delete my account.

Yeah, I joined FAP about 18 months ago and certainly remember posting a piece and coming back 24 hours later and still seeing it posted under "Recent Works." Now, you're lucky if your piece stays in the recent works for more than 5 minutes. It certainly cuts down on the number of individuals who just happen upon your work by monitoring the index.

Oh well... Maybe things will get better. Or maybe not...

          Thanx!

I doubt it, my good friend. I think it's going to only remain as congested if not worse. I think once FA returns no one will even go back to it. This site functions a lot better anyways.

True enough... It does, when there's not two hundred zillion furs on it... As time goes by and FA stays down, the chances dwindle that they will get anywhere near their former subscriber base back when it finally does come back... We'll just have to see...

              Thanx!
