The Furry Fandom and the Student

Posted 5 months ago

This is a tad long but I really need as many people to read and participate in this as possible. At no point will I be asking for anything out side of your opinions. You can skip my intro. filling you in on my personal situation and get to the point by scrolling down to the **********.

For those who didn't catch it in my LJ I was at risk of flunking out of college this quarter. It has to do with a little something called a ICR (which I think stands for an incrimental completeion rate or something).

The DL on the ICR is that if a student for whatever reason (genuine hospitalization, family emergency, with drawl to avoid an 'F', even if it was a recommended drop from a higher authority) drops below a 66% of classes they have attempted vs those passed they are automatically with drawl from school.

It's no secret that I have been struggling with classes at AiC that have had to do with 3D modeling. I just couldn't do it. Which, actually, turned out to be 'no big deal' according to my advisor's at school because a number of teachers and other high ups decided I was much more suited for a program called 'Design Management'. It just started up at the school not too long ago and they had been seeking suitable students for it.

And they were right! The past two quarters I have sat in on this program have been my best two yet in the way of comprehension, fitting in and enthusiasum. (No they still haven't taught me how to spell *rim shot*) The classes are harder than hell and very long in comparision to the media arts and animation classes but they're spectacular.

This past quarter I have had a hard time with attendance, however, due to health issues. I even tried my very hardest to push past it and ended up being wheeled out of the school in an ambulance. My ICR is in much danger but the teachers are trying to force me through.

Basically, the quarter may have just ended but all the work has just started for me.

**********

So *where the hell do you guys come into all of this*?

The Design Management program is a little hard for me to explain since I'm so new to it but basically I have to develope, launch and complete a portfolio on a one-year study of SOMETHING. It doesn't matter what it is if I can tie it to what I'm learning.

I have discussed in great detail with all my teachers for years now about my thoughts and feelings on the Furry Fandom. I wasn't taken seriously for a good solid three years until I was able to gather enough information to get their attention.

Success? Oh yes, I am dead serious about this whole thing. All eyes and ears are now on what I'm about to do in relation to my career and the Furry Fandom.

As a requirement for me to wiggle past this past quarter I have to write up a the starting documents for this one year study. I would *like* anyone who is interested, curious or just plain interested in any way shape or form in helping to comment, email or note me. Currently, I'm looking to gather a small -online- focus group to bat ideas around on what to do, how to go about doing it and how people feel about it. (Yahoo group maybe? I suppose a forum would be appropriate here.)

Eventually, everyone will know what the heck I'm doing. I know I may be confusing a lot of furs right now because until it launches I can't full announce the details. There's a lot of legal work behind this.

I can tell you that the main idea behind it is to develope a way for the furry community to basically do a self-study.

Do I care what they world thinks of us? Currently, not one bit. This is about furs, for furs and furry fur fur...fur.

I was hoping to get more time before being this out but that's not going to happen if I get dropped from school. So, I have to do it now.

Uh...please...questions? Answers? Lemonade?

<3 Farelle

P.S. Currently, the focus group for discussion on possibly launching a 'self-study' can be found here:
