So considering that my delicious, huge and mysterious folder r has been lost twice before to hd crash and had to be re-assembled from the net I had the imperative to back it up this time before the hd finally dies. After having done just that the hd suddenly started behaving once again? Odd but I'm not complaining. Maybe that's just its way of telling that I should do backups.
Anyhows good luck with the reinstalling process.

But before you do that, if there's anything important on your drive, I'd save as much as it as you can to CD-Rs or DVD-Rs (or an external drive if you have one). Can't stress backing up your data enough. :) You should also make sure you have any drivers your computer might need before you wipe your PC, too, especially for network and video.
If you are running Windows XP or Vista, you can boot the computer from the install CD-ROM. If the computer isn't booting from the CD-ROM, you may have to go into the BIOS and change the boot order, like change it tries booting from the CD-ROM first.
Once you do get the system booted up with the CD-ROM, there's usually an option to Install or re-install Windows. Choose that.
It'll then ask you what partition you want to install it on. You want to delete the current partition (make sure you backed up your stuff, because you can't get it back after this). Then you can either create a new partition or just have Windows automatically create one.
Then, when you start installing Windows it will reformat the drive.

There might be a message on your screen that says what key to press.
What's the make and model of your PC? :) You could always try looking up instruction manuals online.

or f8
or whatever
also it might say HIT SOME OTHER KEY FOR BOOT MENU POP UP
if you see that hit that key because it would just bring up a little prompt and say what do you want to boot off? and then you would be like "cd rom plz :3~~~~" and it would do it

if not you can crack open the case and see if there is the info printed on the mobo. either way, getting drivers is gaysauce

Try remove thoss first, and then retry the windows cd boot to a fresh format install :]
