Dream of Forest Hearts by *dragoncrescent

Artist commentary

Mataeus and Eagle lay on their cushioned leaf, dazzled by the flick and flitter of fireflies as they loll through the air. The forest and its delicious scent of life fills them with a sense of child-like adventure. They gaze into each other's eyes, talking about everything and nothing, merely ecstatic to be in the presence of one another's soul. The rabbit, a daydreamer to the nth degree, decides to launch into an story; the same story that he's never told another living soul but that of his mate. He loses himself as the story flows through him, he is its vessel, and his faraway eyes gaze deeply into the moon, the silvery gateway through which he enters his own world. As Mataeus raises a single, playful paw to lend motion and passion to his tale, he is blissfully unaware of the pair of loving eyes that rest on him. Perhaps unbeknown to those beautiful, deep and elegant cheetah eyes is the understanding that his attention, his mere indulgence of the bunny's wild ideas, is what lends wind to the dreamer rabbit's wings.

Just a little something I've been working on for my mate, Eagle the Cheetah. When he left one of his sketchbooks at my apartment, I had the brilliant idea to... "borrow" it and draw something for him. I had been intending to have it done by our anniversary of being together for one year, but general artistic sloth kept me from finishing. I guess I'm sort of proud that I really put a lot of effort into this one. I think it's probably the amalgamation of everything I've learned so far. Honestly, when I look at, I see error upon error that just annoy me! Goddammit, why didn't I notice these things before I inked it!? I think maybe the errors just don't come out until near the end, after I'm already well into coloring it.

Funny how my "best" drawings are always the ones I try really hard on for the Cheetah. ^_^
