Xjal - Drawn by KaeMantis by *voidphoenix

Artist commentary

My avatar/fursona, Valorum Xjal, as drawn by the talented KaeMantis.

The phoenix (plural) of Xjal's world are made of pure energy - in Xjal's case, the shadow energy of the Void.

Besides being naturally telepathic, Xjal is a runecaster - the runes adorning his body act as conduits through which he can channel various types of energy. These runes bond to their owners, and grow in size and complexity as their owners grow in power and age. In this picture, Xjal is relatively young - only a couple centuries hatched - and has only a few, simple runes, the ones on his chest providing protection and the ones on his palms allowing for basic energy projection.

As his body is essentially composed of voidfire, he can shape his physical aspects into any form he desires, thus his height, wingspan, ect. are determined by the psychological effect he wishes to project on those around him, and he's buff because it looks impressive, not because he works out (indeed, he has no actual muscles to exercise, his strength being determined on his current level of evergy and sheer willpower)

This may sound odd, but I really like the head structure in this. xD
