Artist commentary

This drawing is unique for being the first time I've used watercolors and colored pencils together. I've laid the base colors and color composition in watercolor and filled in the fine details with the pencils.

I'm rather pleased with the results although the waxy colored pencils left some residue here and there... I'm hoping it's just the watercolor paper I used. But in a way I guess it shows that this is done in traditional media and not photoshop.

Subect of course is a black panther in a mayan-inspired costume about to pounce some random passerby in some jungle setting... maybe a highwayman? Who knows? The painting was ment to have some suspense to it, like you sense some action is about to take place. Also, the fact that the panther blends in with the background is intentional... save perhaps the highlights and colors that set him apart.
