Artist commentary

That's right! In this magical furry world of mine--the same one in which everyone wears a tie and drives an electric Studebaker--the digital and plantigrade coexist peacefully! They just have to use different tailors. I can't believe people have fights over this, you can have both.

The big yellow guy is Rookram, his species might change later. He's not very interesting, though. Jade seems to be your favorite, Koor seems to have a lot of lady fans which is good because he's the only straight one, and Vermilion is fun to draw. Y'all like Vermilion, right? I can draw him nude at some point. I should give y'all a nude Koor at some point too.

Alright, this picture is two things. Firstly, it's a study in wrinkles, a subject about which I found a helpful book. I haven't really drawn real wrinkly clothes before, so I thought I'd try it out. I was feeling good earlier because there aren't many furries what can do backgrounds, clothing is something furries really can't do. (Silver Fenrir is awesome at clothing, though.) And secondly, it's professing the superiority of suspenders. It's just a better way of keeping your slacks up. You just gotta tuck in your shirt. I know that sounds horribly uncomfortable, but you know, they used to do it all the time. And not just for church or anything, they did it everyday.

Koor's and Jade's wings change size depending on where I draw them.

B.T.W.: All you furry muscle guys, it really looks better if you don't draw an outline for every single muscle. You have to think about what shapes warrant an outline, a muscle is just a slight bulge under the skin with no abrupt change in depth, worthy of a stroke of highlight and a stroke of shading when you're coloring, but in plain line-art most of the muscles really don't create enough of a variation in the surface of the skin to get their own outlines. There are much sharper variations in depth that take place on clothing that y'all completely ignore.

You know, if I ever start doing a comic strip, (which is what I've been trying do for the last eight years,) y'all are going to have to live with inconsistencies in character designs. I drew Koor with one more wing finger than usual, (what the Hell are those called?) and I really have no intention of getting piercings and ear nicks figured out.

I have no idea when or why I decided Koor should have a mohawk. Come to think of it I'm not sure when I decided Vermilion should have four arms. In fact, I can't remember when I came up with those two, they've just always been around. I spend a lot of time in fantasy-land, whenever I'm bored, trying to get to sleep, or doing something that doesn't require all of my brain. That's why I have a dozen characters when I don't write and I don't R.P. I just play with them in my head all day long. Koor and Vermilion are the oldest, they've been around as long as I can remember. Of course, ten years ago they were completely different species and sizes and had completely different professions and personalities. Still the same characters in my mind, it's like the man who claimed to own George Washinton's axe, he only had to replace the head three times and the handle seven times.

It's a shame that you don't RP, I still like the looks of your characters. And as for skins and furs getting along together, it's about damn time that somebody doesnt seem to assume they're like oil and water. My main 'furry' character is actually half human, that's where the 'anthro' comes from in his case.

As for suspenders, I prefer them to belts because belts crush your stomach/abdomen/whatever and it's really not comfortable. Oh, and for the record, I'm fairly sure that since a wing is just an elongated hand, the bones within it would probably still be called phalanges, but I could be wrong.

I've always found it strange the relationship between furries and humans described in furry fiction. Nine times out of ten if the universe in which the story takes place includes both humans and furries the furries are enslaved or oppressed or at least discriminated against by the evil humans, even though most of the time the furries outnumber the humans, and the humans in question are portrayed as feeble and incompetent. Furry authors tend to get a little cathartic. It also involves a lot of meta-thinking, how do the humans in the story "know" they're different from all the other creatures? Wouldn't they just think of themselves as just another species in a world playing host to a thousand sentient species of all shapes and sizes?

That's because they are written by Furries. A lot of furries have that whole misanthropy thing going on.
I plan in my own series to do away with that. Actually, now that I think on it, straight up "humans" and "furries" (or humans and lykoi, as my case would be) are the minority, because they've interbred so much and made a new majority, and the reptiles are really the only ones keeping to themselves, but even then, there's only one hostile group of them. There's dicks of every species, just as there's good people in every species.

Also: Suspenders! :D. Something about a big beasty like that wearing classy clothes and looking all mannered is really cool.

Yeah, furry authors and roleplayers seem to have an extreme tend to get more and more into the victim role and then project that into their writings and so forth. Honestly, I don't understand it, you'd think it would end up more like how most sci-fi or dungeons and dragons settings show it, with the various races getting along for the most part, unless something about that race makes them interminably a bunch of douchebags [see: average gnolls, though not all of them]. I feel most sorry for the people who like anthros but play a human myself, since they tend to be treated very poorly in character by furs who just want someone for their character to villify for no legitimate reason. "Oh humans were mean to me, oh humans are horrible" "...But you just said that they didnt even have humans where you came from." "That was before we had one to play with that I could say was the antichrist". The main problem is that yes, it does require a lot of meta-thinking, but the people who villify something generally don't want to actually think about that something, they just want to stuff it full of undesirable traits and go "Look, Bad!" at their readers.

No, we haven't seen him with his clothing on. This is because you draw porn. Lots of it. Good porn.

That said, seeing something other than porn from you is also quite nice. There's lots of awesome in this picture. :)
