Artist commentary

I was looking through some old stuff and found one of my first digital drawings done in Illustrator... Done in 2004 right after I got back from Japan (BG was a pic I took from the bridge leading to the main gate at Tokyo Disney). I was still trying to find a personal style and the lines were yucky. Kinda liked the t-shirt though, since one of the things I saw frequently in Japan were young women (and men) wearing t-shirts that contained seemingly random words in English. I doubt the wearers knew what their t-shirts said, but I guess they thought it was kewl... Prolly the same thing they were thinking of me, since I was wearing a t-shirt that said "Respect the Emperor" in kanji... A character I've since merged into my Achika...

Must agree with everyone here. Love the look in her eyes, they are the type I could get lost in and not mind it one bit.

Super cute mon, that story also adds to the pic, and I think the manga style matches very well with all the considered points. Fave! =+D
Empty words of adulation and appreciation do not allow an artist to grow. Overly critical and out right attacks on an artists' work are even more damaging.

Heh heh ... having a little bit of Fur Affinity's broken hardware blues, hmm?

That's a rather interesting read of the evolution of your characters and style. Hmm, all artists want to go to Japan.

lol! Exactly right! With FA down, I was getting bored so I started digging through a bunch of old pics...

Anyway, I look at the stuff I did back in 2004 now and say "Ewwwww, how could I have made that mistake." I guess everyone does the same though...

I had always wanted to go to Japan, since I was an undergrad (I majored in Far Eastern history before I joined the military). As it turned out, I was chosen to attend a Japanese military school. The Army was going to send me to grad school, then language school (in Monterey California) for a year, followed by two years in Japan. I was ecstatic. Unfortunately, some general in my military specialty said "No way!" and the assignment fell through (I was in a combat arms branch that was short of people at the time). In any case, the assignments officers started jerking me around and it finally ended up that I was destined to get an assignment in Liberia (!), when, by happenstance a general I worked for directly heard about where they were going to send me and intervened. I didn't get to go to Japan, but ended up in the Middle East, but at least it wasn't Liberia... It took me a long time and I had to pay for it myself, but I finally made it there!

Thanx Chip!!! This is an old one I found in my archives... I had downloaded it to an old art site long ago. When my computer crashed in 2005, I had to re-download it from the site or it would have been lost for good...

Thanx for the comment! Always appreciated!
