Chapter 1

The First Tail

In a time of magic and myth, when gods walk the world in mortal guise. There walked a fox morph who would become the greatest of them all. Her destiny was one even the gods could not see, she was beyond them in time, beyond them in wisdom, and held a power that could destroy them all. She was the first of the kitsune.

She was a lovely young vixen with but one lone tail behind her at the time our story begins, Standing only 5 foot 9 inches tall from ear tips to her slim foot paws. With long midnight black hair, her red fur brighter then fire in the darkness framing her snow white tail tip, chest and belly fur. Her hands and foot paws gloved in black, blacker then the midnight sky during an eclipse. Her fur was soft as silk and when the breeze would run across her fur it would look like waves of flame, she was the loveliest young vixen among all her people.

The other vixens within her tribe were very jealous of her beauty, how ever this was nothing compared to the anger they felt as the tods of the tribe all fawned and drooled over the her. The tods would do anything to gain the favor of this amazing god given angel before them. Her name was Sol de luna, light of the moon, and as much as she loved the attention the tods gave her, she never would ask anything of them. But still they tried to win her heart, they brought gifts of flowers, food, skins to sleep on, clothes and jewelry to wear, Sol refused them all.

While the tods did this, the vixens grew more and more to hate the young vixen Sol. Thus they began to talk among themselves. One vixen was the mate of the tribes elder tod Cirrus, her name was Kayaa, “ this has got to stop... our males are fawning over this sol... who is not even of mating age yet!”.

Sol was young still not even to her first heat, and the tods wanted her more and more as each day passed, she was not able to stop them. Sol would try to hide from them when they brought their gifts, but all knew her scent very well. Kayaa sat with the other vixens of the tribe, growling in their jealously and anger of this kit stealing the attention of their tods and mates.

Kayaa would speak, “ we must get rid of her!”, Kayaa’s tail would twitch angrily behind her as another vixen would speak up.

“ yes we must, but how?... the elder will not exile her for nothing”

the others grumbled and nodded in agreement with the vixen, all looking to kayaa, who sat looking at them all sitting before her. Kayaa knew the vixen was right, her mate was blinded by the innocent Sol’s beauty and youth. Another vixen voiced her self to the others, “ no one has ever been exiled before, none in the tribes history have ever been exiled kayaa.”

The collected vixen all whined, thinking they would not be rid of Sol till she mated. Which would make the other tods return they attentions to the rest. But Kayaa was not the elders mate for nothing, she know one way to get rid of Sol. Kayaa growled low to silence the whines, “ QUIET!, all of you be silent and listen to me. There are ways to get rid of her.”

The vixens all raised their ears listening now to the tribes vixen elder, curious as to what would bring their tods back to them. They all looked to kayaa as she spoke, “ There are ways to end up an exile or even receive death for a crime one has committed with in the tribe.....”

Kayaa looked them all over silently for a moment then very softly and serious she spoke again. “If you kill steal from the elder, or attack an elder of this tribe.... or....”, now this last one was the worst of all things one fox could do to another, “ kill one of the tribe.”

The vixens all whined at the last they wise elder vixen had mentioned, killing another fox was forbidden by the gods. Any fox that killed another would be put to death, but so as no other fox would be stained with the blood of the guilty fox. They would be muzzled and have their arms bound behind their back, then they would be sent out in to the forest to starve and die, this way no other fox would have to physically take the life of the guilty one.

“ But elder Kayaa, she would not kill or attack another .. And she has never stolen anything but out tods affections and attentions.”

Kayaa nodded to the vixen, “I know Cari.. This I know to well, which means we much make it look like she has.”

The vixens all looked at one another then back to Kayaa. Cari lifted her head to speak again, “ but elder kayaa, she will barely come out of her den, as much as we want the tods attentions back, Sol hides from them.”

Kayaa nodded to Cari and the other vixens, “ I know Cari, but she will come if I call her.” There was a collective nod among the vixens, if kayaa called they answered. Kayaa grinned at them, “Leave this to me, my young ones... I will make sure she troubles us no more.” she almost laughed at her idea to get rid of poor innocent Sol.

While this gathering was taking place, Sol had finally managed to get some peace from the ever present tod suitors. They watched her relentlessly and followed her whenever they had completed their allotted chores. Sol had decided to take advantage of the lovely night, padding lightly down the moonlit trail to the river just half a mile from the village.

Reaching the river, Sol looks around before slowly removing her animal skin skirt and the bra like top. Setting them on a rock near the water, she slips slowly into the cold water. Diving under and surfacing in deeper water, she throws her head back and pushes her long back hair with her hands. “Mmmm... it’s soooo wonderful to get some time alone to just relax and swim. By the gods I am going to go crazy if they do not stop chasing me.”

Sol often would talk to her self as the other vixens shunned her because she was taking all the attention of the males in the tribe. Thus she had no friends among the vixens, her only friends where the wind, the moon, the river and the earth. She spoke to them often, the gods listening and watching this small mortal vixen, curious of what she meant to their future. But 4 of the gods knew she was a friend to them as she always talked to them at least, even tho they never spoke back with words.

As Sol bathe in the river, the moon bathed her in it’s light, the wind would turn warm to help dry her fur in the night air. “ mmmm, such a lovely night...and a warm breeze too.” Sol smiles climbing out of the river shaking off the water, her fur fluffing as she stands back up and murrs softly enjoying the breeze as she dries.

Sol lays out on the grass to dry, closing her eyes to enjoy her alone time, wishing the other vixens would accept her and help her ward off the tribes tods. As she lay resting, Kayaa the elder vixen walks up silently and looks at the naked vixen and sniffs, eyeing the poor lonely vixen. Kayaa would speak softly and call her name, “Sol de luna, child have you no shame.. What if a tod came along and found you laying naked like this?”

Sol jumped up startled by the old vixen. “Elder kayaa... I .. I am sorry.. I was just drying after my bath.” Sol moved and picked up her clothing dressing quickly while Kayaa watched.

“It is alright child, but be more careful next time.” The old vixen grinned to herself, Sol was so trusting and wanted the praise of the other vixens in the tribe. “Sol, I am not here to take you from your quiet time so you can stay and enjoy it. When you are finished I want you to come to my den, I want to speak you to you about the males and how we can get them to leave you alone.”

Sol looked up at Kayaa and smiled, the elder vixen as inviting Sol in to her home. “Oh yes, yes elder I will come a soon as I dry and groom.”

Kayaa grinned and nodded, turning to walk away, “ Now don’t forget child, I will be waiting for you with a nice dinner prepared.” Kayaa laughed silently, Sol was so easy to fool, a few kind words and she would do anything she was asked to do, thought kayaa.

Sol was happy and excited, with Kayaa gone Sol danced and giggled happily, “Yay.. The elder has invited me in.. She wants to talk to me and help me. This is wonderful... I get to finally explain I don’t want this attention showered on me, thank you gods for listening and answering my prayers.”

Sadly the gods has not answered her prayers, as much as they wished they could, they were unable to interfere in her life in any way other then with in the realm of nature. They knew what the old vixen Kayaa had planned and were helpless to stop it.

Kayaa waited in her den, a very lovely meal prepared just for Sol when she arrived. With special herbs that would put the poor vixen to sleep, but that was just the first part of the plan. Kayaa had already called another vixen to come to her den after the moon was high in the night sky. Everything was coming together nicely in Kayaa’s mind, soon the tribe would be rid of this nuisance that has taken the attention of the males.

Sol happily went back to her own den and brushed and groomed herself, getting ready to head to Kayaa’s den for a dinner and a talk. “Finally... Someone is gonna help me stop the males form chasing me around and trying to mate with me.. I can be free to chose on my own.”

Sol walked slowly to Kayaa’s den, calling out softly, “Elder.. It’s me Sol de luna.. May I enter please?”

Kayaa looks up from her seat, “ Yes child, you may enter, dinner is waiting.”

Sol slowly walks in and looks around, slowly walking over and kneeling before her elder. “ thank you elder for allowing me in to your home, to talk about what has been happening....” Kayaa holds up her hand to Sol.

“Eat first Sol, then we will talk, let us not ruin a good meal with talks of problems.” Kayaa smiles kindly to Sol who bows her head politely and slowly starts eating.

“Mmm... this is very good elder, thank you for inviting me to eat with you.” Sol starts feeling drowsy as the sleeping herbs start working on her as she keeps eating. Growing drowsy, she looks up at Kayaa who is grinning at her.

“Sweet dreams Sol... when you wake up everything will change for you.” Kayaa laughs as sol groans and falls over on to the ground passing out drugged. Kayaa pulls her over to an open are in the den and lays her out waiting for the final piece of her plan to arrive at her end.

When the moon was high in the night sky the other vixen that Kayaa had invited up arrive and enter as she was instructed too. Upon entering the vixen saw the elder vixen standing over a sleeping Sol, the vixen looked to Kayaa, “ Elder what is going on, what have you done to her?”

The vixen walked over and kneeled at Sol’s side checking her to making sure she was alive. To the vixens relief she was. But then Kayaa spoke to the vixen, “This is all part of the plan to be rid of her child. This is my plan and you are the final piece I needed...”

The vixen looked up confused to the elder, only to see Kayaa attack her viciously, the poor vixen screams just as Kayaa uses her teeth to rip out the vixens through clawing and ripping at her. The vixen struggles and cries, clawing back at Kayaa, but to no avail. The defensive attack the poor dying vixen made would only help Kayaa prove that she was trying to defend the soon to be dead female. Kayaa grinned as she uses the vixens blood to cover Sol. Then she takes Sol’s claws and uses them to claw up the dead vixen and her own body, to make it look like Sol had done this. Even using the torn off throat flesh to make it look like Sol had really bitten torn out the poor vixens throat.

Kayaa then took a staff and propped the helpless drugged Sol up, and using the staff hit her hard in the head to make it appear that Kayaa had managed to knock her out. But sadly, it was too late to save the now dead vixen. Kayaa staggered to the door of her den and screamed for help. The scent of blood hanging thick in the air, the tribe came running to the elders cries for help.

Gathering around the opening to Kayaa’s home, all that could see, were sickened and disgusted at the smell and sight before them. There on the floor lay Sol, covered in the blood of two vixens, one dead and laying on the ground and Kayaa, who was very wounded but would live. Kayaa appearing shaken and scared, told the tribe what had happened.

“ I can’t explain it, I had invited poor Sillaya here to for dinner and to talk over the fall harvest that was to come...” Sillaya the poor betrayed young vixen laying dead at Sol’s side in a pool of her own blood. “When ... when Sol came charging in ans screaming nonsense at us... I tried to calm her.. To get her to tell me what was wrong.” Kayaa started crying and trembling.

The elder tod walks over and wrapped a warm fur around his mate Kayaa, comforting her. Speaking gently to her, “ take your time my mate... do not push your self.” He pointed to others and gave his orders. “ bring healing herbs for Kayaa, bring a leather straps to bind Sol de luna and make a muzzle...”

Kayaa leaned against her mate and sobbed, “ She was crazed, my mate... she wouldn’t listen she attacked me, but Sillaya.. Bless her spirit tried to protect me, by getting in Sol’s way... I tried to help.. I really did.” She sobbed more as herbs were brought and carefully applied to the wounds.

As Kayaa was tended, two tribe warriors moved in and picked up Sol, binding her forearms together behind her back. Ensuring she could not break free when she awoke again. They then carries her out and looks to their elders. “Take her to the center of the village and lash her to the totem.” the elder tod commanded with surprise and shame in his voice.

That such a lovely child could do such a thing to another fox. This was a crime that no one could believe, but the evidence lay before them. Sol as well was covered in blood, her claws and muzzle had the blood scents of Kayaa and Sillaya on them. Kayaa looked away and trembled against the elder tod, trembling in horror. “When she was distracted by... poor Sillaya.. I grabbed my walking staff and hit her hard as I could..... she fell over... unconscious ... and then I called for help... incase she woke up again and attacked me.”

The elder tod stood sighing, looking back into Kayaa’s den, he frowned, “No one will speak with Sol de luna any further. When she awakes I will speak with her then pass my judgement as to her fate.”

He helped kayaa up and walked her back to back to his den for her to sleep and rest. While Kayaa lay in his den, the old tod pondered what had caused this tragic event. Once his mate Kayaa was sleeping he stood and walked slowly to the center of the village. Sol lay whimpering now, slowly starting to awaken as the moon was setting, the wind had stopped blowing and the earth seemed still around her.

The elder tod looked down at her as she opened her eyes, groggily, dazed and confused as to why she could not use her arms. Then there was the taste of blood in her muzzle, along with the scent blood in her nose. Sol looked up to the elder tod and whimpered, “E...e..elder?... elder what is happening?... .why am I laying on the ground?... and I taste and smell blood!”

The elder shook his head solemly, “Sol.. Why did you attack Kayaa and kill Sillaya? What caused this horrible act you have committed?”

Sol looked up to him, “Elder I never attacked anyone... Elder Kayaa invited me for dinner and I went.. She said she wanted to help me and I was happy welcomed into her private den... Sillaya was not there at all.. I.. I must have fallen a sleep after dinner with Elder Kayaa.”

The old tod shook his head at her again and sighed sadly. “Child you have attacked my mate.. Her blood is on your claws, you have killed poor Sillaya who tried to stop you from killing Kayaa, you have taken the life of another fox.... I can not deny the proof before me.”

Sol whimpers and struggles getting up to her knees. “Elder I didn’t, I swear I didn’t do what you have said... I would never hurt anyone.”

The elder motioned for Sol to be muzzled tightly, believing what he has seen and what his mate Kayaa has told him. A hunter fox walks over and forces the muzzle on to Sol, who whimpers and cries trying to fight it. But shortly she is muzzled, she cant even open her muzzle to the smallest degree. The old tod called the village to assemble at the center.

As all the tribe gathers, minus Sillaya who is dead and the wounded Elder vixen Kayaa, the elder tod cleared his throat and spoke for the tribe to hear him. “My fellow tribe mates, a grievous act has been committed here, Sol de luna has taken the life of another with in the tribe. The only reason I could find is that she has gone mad... but this is an act that can not be forgiven even if it was madness that caused it.”

The old tod turned to Sol, who was crying and whimpering, struggling against the leather bindings to be free. He looked at her, “ the punishment is death in the manner of exile bound and muzzled so that no other fox of the tribe will be stained by blood.” He nods to two hunters that pick Sol up.

“Take her to the other side of the river, away from the village and set her walking on her path to the death. May the gods forgive you for your evil acts Sol de luna.” He looks to the hunters, “If she tries to return after you release her to walk under her own power.. You may kill her as she is no longer part of this tribe. From this day on Sol de luna is exiled and her name is not to be spoken again!!”

The two hunters drag Sol off, kicking and whining, walking her to the river and dragging her through the water. Being pulled through the water washes the blood off, before the hunters stand her on the other side away from the village. They stand watching her to make sure she leaves, their spears at the ready to do as their elder has told them. Sol looks at them then back at the village and whimpers, tears in her eyes being exiled from her home for something she hasn’t done. The hunters growl at her threateningly, and she starts running away, arms bound helplessly and muzzled tightly leaving her unable to eat or drink, she was to die by starvation and thrist. So while the gods watched unable to interfere, Sol walked in to the wilderness, alone and exiled from the only home she has ever known.
