Artist commentary

Okay, I admit it... I'm a sucker for the classic TV show "I Dream of Jeannie." Barbara Eden is hawt!!! Mini-rant ahead... Major Nelson, dedicated astronaut or space-sick dumbass? I frankly think the latter... He finds an orgasmically hot, all-powerful female genie-in-a-bottle, who runs around half-dressed, can grant his every wish and wants nothing more than to please him... And all he can think about is how to keep her out of sight and in her bottle?!? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?!? Was he oxygen-deprived in his space capsule or something?

Whew... Anyway, here is a hand-drawn pic done completely in colored pencil from when I just had begun drawing again following a hiatus of years of avoiding art... Not great by any stretch, but posted to in the hopes that you can see some improvement over the course of about four years from when this was drawn...

Not a furry, but hey, a genie is close!

I have to agree... had I have been Maj. Nelson,
I would have been staggering into work from
the numbness in my legs of the previous nights
of... you get the idea. *wink*

And your take on Jeannie is on the money!

Thanx and yeah, I would have been grounded for chronic dehydration if I were Major Nelson... But then, I wouldn't really give a rat's patootie because that would mean I could spend more time at home with Jeannie!

      Thanx again!

Now, I don't think I've seen anything hand-drawn by you, so this is very interesting.

Man, I have to admit that I couldn't stand those old sitcoms. I'd get up early in the morning so that I could catch Mr. Wizard's World on Nickelodeon, but it would still be Nick at Nite mode and I'd have to sit through Dobie Gillis or My Three Sons. Then, my sister would get an affinity for watching Gilligan's Island or Bewitched; oh, God, I hate Bewitched! I liked when Jon Stewart lampooned one of Fox News' commentators who lamented at how seeing Barbara Eden had "traumatized" him as a kid, and Stewart agreed saying that he used to "traumatize" himself two or three times a day watching Barbara Eden.

"...and after the hours I spent holding up her poster with one hand." - Steve Martin

Anyway, thanks for sharing this one with us!

Yup, yup... This was done just a few months after I started drawing again after not having done any art for years...I was left with a pretty bad taste in my mouth for the whole art scene after a row I had with one of my art professors, so I dropped out of Fine Arts, got my sheepskin in another field and joined the Army. I didn't draw anything for years, except my military pay >^.^< About five years ago, I started drawing again and this was one of my first efforts.

Didn't particularly care much for Bewitched or Gilligan's Island (although Maryanne was a babe!). I Dream of Jeannie though, completely different. Barbara Eden was and is still one of the hottest women on the planet imho and, although the series sucked, the time she spent on screen was worth watching the rest of the suckiness. If I had been writing for IDoJ, the TV Censorship board would have fired the entire staff and incarcerated everyone within a 10 mile radius of the studio.

As always, appreciate the look-in and the comments!

Empty words of adulation and appreciation do not allow an artist to grow. Overly critical and out right attacks on an artists' work are even more damaging.

        It is really nice to see the past work of an artist to get a feel for their progression regarding current material. =+}

I will not attempt to type out the theme song to this old show but I can suppose this might have been scandalous when it first aired. But I can see where the commentary is coming from. The only bad thing I could see if they redid it today is that Jeannie would be even less dressed if they could get away with it. Now I'm getting double visions of the more modern version for my real life and a fennec vixen or some other sort for my furry fantasy life. Still you did a fantastic job creating this. Thanks for sharing it with us.

It was pretty scandalous when it was originally aired, so much so that Barbara Eden couldn't show her navel. Years later, when they did an I Dream of Jeannie TV special (I think it was called I Still Dream of Jeannie), a much older but still smoking hot Barbara Eden was allowed to fully bare her shapely midriff...

Thank you for the kind comments and the look-in!

Not a problem, you did an excellent rendering. The show it is based on is tame by today's standards but when it was aired...well you said it yourself.

Oh yeah. Ms Eden was a dream. Couldn't help but have the old Andrew Dice Clay routine flash through my head reading your mini-rant. "Jeannie, why don't you make your tongue six-feet long, stand on the other side of the room, and . . ."

The hottest scene I ever saw Barbara Eden film was in the movie The 7 Faces of Dr. Lao. She was playing a prudish school marm who secretly loved some dude in a western town but was too shy and introverted to tell him. That is, until she visited the Circus of Dr. Lao and saw the "Pan, the God of Love" exhibit... She entered the tent and found Pan (played by Tony Randall) lounging around in a pretty crappily done mock forest setting... Pan sees her enter and begins playing his pipes, slowly at first, then picking up the tempo and dancing around. Barbara reacts by fidgeting at first, then sweating, then ends up clawing open her dress buttons as she obviously falls under Pan's spell... She and Pan lean in for a kiss, obviously the first step in things to come when someone opens the tent flap and walks in, breaking the spell and causing the now partially undressed Barb to flee the area... No real nekkidness or horizontal hula shown because of the censorship rules at the time, but could you imagine that scene being filmed today? Pan would have been one lucky satyr...

      Thanx!

If I gould go back in time with VCR there's two things I'd get....
1)A 1979 Golden Grahams commercial where a young gymnast's leotard ends up askew in the crotch area, showing for an instant that the carpet matched the drapes.

2)1976 "Talent Show Episode" of MAUDE where to spice up a boring talent skit, Adrienne(In a Genie outfit)Belly/Go-go Danced in the background....

        You're Welcome!
