"That flower is native to where I come from... a tiny little country in Britain, called Wales. It's the national flower. Did you know that?" she said quietly, hoping to interest the child. She hadn't told Domi yet as she wasn't sure whether she wanted to go herself, but she had been thinking about going to Wales and trying to track her parents. If she did, she wanted a group of her friends to come, just for a vacation outside of FurryVille. Starlyth, she thought, might find it interesting to go to a new place for a visit. Wales was a beautiful country.
Sutekh couldn't help but smile as he watched little Starlyth 'dance' with the flower, and listened to Siouxie speak of her native land. Suddenly, a thought struck him. Gently, he lifted the child, careful not to exert too much pressure with his metal claws, scooted over a fraction, and set her down again where he had been sitting. He stood slowly.
"I just got an idea, something you may both enjoy," he said, just a hint of excitement in his voice. "It's something I used to do fairly often when I was at home during breaks in the fighting, back in the day. I'll be back in just a few minutes."
With that, he nodded to the vixen and the child, and jogged off in the direction of his home.
"Aaron!" he shouted as he passed the hybrid. "I'm going back to the house for something real quick. I want you to stay away from the child while I'm gone. I've sworn to protect her, and right now I still view you as a health hazard. Nothing personal, you'll redeem yourself in time, but for now...you know what to do."
He jogged on past the borders of the park, half a mile down one road, then another half mile down another. He was surprised at his endurance. It had been a long time since he'd had to run for such a length of time, and he hadn't exactly been easy on his lungs in the meantime. Before long, he reached the large Victorian-style house he had inherited so long ago, but only just recently moved into. He went inside, walked through to the back yard, and disappeared into a small shed, a mischievious grin on his face.
Five minutes later, there was a muffled roar as Su closed the last few hundred yards between himself and the park at fifty miles per hour. He decelerated, shifted smoothly up over the curb, crossed into the park, and continued on towards the sandbox at a much more modest pace. He braked, shifted from 'forward' to 'idle,' and looked down at Siouxie and Starlyth.
"Whaddaya think?" he said, beaming, over the hum of the two-seater jetbike's engines, while motioning to the empty padded space behind him. "I'll go slow, I promise."
Siouxie gaped at Sutekh's new toy.
"Wow...I want one!"
She turned to the child.
"Come on, little one, lets go for a spin! Don't worry.. I'll keep you safe, I promise. I won't let you fall."
Sutekh chuckled.
"Sorry, Siouxie, but I'm afraid they're no longer in production," he said. "This one was one of the last ever made. Rolled off the assembly line in August of 1981. Seen me safely through three major combat operations. Anyway...here."
He simultaneously applied pressure to the left stirrup of the bike with his boot and pulled back on the handlebars, causing the bike to bank to the right and its altitude to decrease slightly. The salawa then slid back a number of inches in his seat.
"Starlyth, you sit here," he said, gesturing to the now vacant space between him and where the seat padding ended just short of the handlebars. "Most secure spot there is. Plus, it should be more comfortable than being sandwiched between Siouxie and myself, or hanging on in the far back."
"Wales? I would love to see it. Sure mom would to." Starlyth replied with a big smile to the vixen. She then blinked when Su had taken off like a shot, he seeming almost like the super hero Flash at that point with how quick he was in leaving the park.
When he returned her ears perked at the jetbike, admiring the odd vehicular beauty of it. Purring as she looked to Siouxie as she spoke, she grinned before turning to the salawa as her tail swayed behind her. Carefully she climbed into the indicated spot.
Red was over getting a hotdog and soda at the local cart vender near the pond. "That will be 5.50 please." Red swiped his credit card and turn around happily taking a bite of the other 'buns' of delight. It was delicious and rare that he could eat a meal without worrying he'd get shot or worse...not finish.
In the back of Mids mind, a soft voice spoke to her. "When you ge the chance to look. Check the picnic baskets. I left Starlyth a surprise in there."
Mrs. Wolfen leaned her bike up against the tree, and put a chain around it lightly to keep it there. She then walked back to Mids, and stood next to her. "Miss Midnight, i want to say I'm sorry to you and Starlyth for what i said about Angel that day. I never meant it. I was, still trapped in a darker world....Brooklyn is not a happy place."
Billy stood still as he felt something funny. He looked behind him as his tail was wagging increadibly fast. He reached back and unscrewed it quickly, the reached a claw inside thetail and flipped a switch to turn it off. the he scewed the tail back on, hoping no one had seen it.
Bojo and Asteria watched Su bring in his "toy". Both were curious about what it could do.
"She might be tuckered out by the end of the day but okay Angel." she sent back, using that current faint link of theirs to sent a hug to him, hoping he would feel it despite where he was. It was that moment she realised none of them had sat down to eat.
Turning to the wolfess she smiled kindly, nodding her head to the woman as she moved to hug her, even bend down to give an affectionate nuzzle and lick to her neck before looking to her. "It's okay. I understand."
Siouxie eagerly climbed on the back and hung onto Su's waist.
"Take 'er away, hun! Show us what she can do!"
Su rolled the vehicle back upright, shifted out of idle, and eased the handlebars forward. With a roar, the engine engaged, and the bike shot forward. Su kept the bike going at between thirty and forty miles per hour as he increased the altitude. He banked left, turning in a wide arc that brought them right over the heads of the others. Sutekh grinned, and turned in the other direction, the vehicle's fumes, though they dissipated quickly, tracing a large s-shape in the air.
"If you want me to go higher, lower, faster, etc., just let me know," he shouted to his passengers, keeping his eyes forward. "Anywhere in particular you want to go?"
"Higher and faster!" Starlyth cried with a giggle. She wasn't afraid of falling off or anything. She could hold tight.
"Higher and faster it is, then," said the salawa, grinning. He gave the engine more gas, adding ten or fifteen miles an hour more to their speed, while at the same time climbing another few feet. Making a smooth u-turn, Su accelerated just a bit more before decreasing the altitude and heading straight towards Red. At the last possible moment, he pulled up, rocketing over the fox's head. Su let out a triumphant yell, and brought the bike back around for another go.
Red's eyes got huge as he freaked and threw his food up in the air as they just passed over head. "WOULD'JHAA!!" His drink opened and splashed every where under the bottom of the bike but some of the droplets made it through sprinkling everyone on it. The partially enjoyed hot dog flew upward and got lodged in Siouxie's nostril while the wrapper with mustard clang to Su's face.
Sutekh let out a frustrated sigh, twisted the handlebars' grips forward to lock them in place, and tore the wrapper away from his face. Luckily, it was the non-mustard side that had made contact with his face. The salawa unlocked the handlebars, pulled back on them slowly until the jetbike was at a near stop, and dropped the altitude to just a few feet.
"Hang on," he said, a murderous grin slowly forming on his face. He gritted his teeth, and pushed forward on the handlebars. The bike lurched forward, steadily picking up speed. Su adjusted his course so that he was headed right for Red.
"RED! YOU BETTER RUN, MAN! YOU JUST PUT ME IN THE MOOD FOR BEING AN ASS, AND SO I'MA GO RIGHT UP YOURS! WIT' THIS!"
Siouxie's head jerked back and the hot dog flew off, spinning in circles.
"Su, make sure you don't hurt this kid..." she warned of Starlyth. Holding on herself for dear life, she poked her head out from behind Sutekh.
"You gon' be very sorry that hot dog went near my nose..." she grinned evilly.
"Get him, Su..."
Starlyth wiped mustard away that had smacked her in the face, though she didn't have any anger towards the fox for freaking and tossing his food at them she poked her tongue out with a miniature version of an evil grin. "Gonna run ya down Red!"
Sigh...and all this time I'd die from getting hit by a train. Not a jet hover bike. As the bike speed towards him he simply stood straight up and placed his arms over his chest then closed his eyes. It seemed imminent that he was a goner as they drew within feet then suddenly seemed to vanish as they ran over the spot he once stood.
Billy merely watched them go...he wasn't too surprised to see red vanish like he did.
Bojo and asteria moved over to where Mids was. They setteled in te grass near the cubi.
Julia sat next to Bojo and Asteria. The wolfess watched the cat once more begin playing with the ball of string.
Grinning as she watched the insanity for awhile, Mids sat with the little group that had gathered around her and wrapped her wings around them, purring as she did.
"What the...aw, HELL!"
Sutekh heaved back on the right handlebar, while at the same time pushing the left forward as far as it would go and banking the vehicle to the left in order to bring the G-forces down to a non-lethal level. The jetbike spun counterclockwise sickeningly fast. Su hunched forward and tensed all his muscles, anchoring both himself and his passengers to the craft. Gritting through the resulting headrush, the salawa returned both handlebars to a slightly forward position.
"Red!" he called out, his voice raised slightly, as he cruised slowly in a wide circle. "Show yourself! I don't aim to kill ye by plowing into you with this going sixty...I'm going to annoy you to death. I WILL find you, Red."
During the even he had simply fell flat againt the ground and let the bike pass overhead. Red stood up and dusted him self off. Hoover bikes have one draw back Su. You cant run the fauk over people! He shot his tongue out at them and began walking to buy another hotdog that hopefully wouldnt go up anyone's anything this time.
Asteria settled back into Mids wing gently. She smiled contentedly. Julia smiled at mids, stroking a wing as she did. Bojo giggled a little as some feathers tickled his side. then he held up the string in his paws for all to see. He had made a picture of mids manor by running the string around his fingers.
A small smile appeared on Su's face.
"No, Red, you're right. I can't run over people. But I can do this."
The bike lurched forward, bumping into Red as he walked towards the concession stand. The force pushed him forward a few feet. Su's smile broadened, and he nudged the fox again.
"I'ma keep doing this until you're all the way to the ordering window, man," he said, laughing giddily. "Just so ye know."
Siouxie grinned happily as Su kept nudging Red. Each time, it jolted them and made her wobble uneasily.
"What a great way to train balance..." she thought, laughing, and hung on tight.
"It's going to be hard to stand after this!" she laughed again.
Makeing a small squeak at the lurch, Starlyth made sure she stayed plannted and shook her head, feeling just a tiny bit dizzy.
Midnight Star blinked at the intricate design Bojo had made as she wrapped her wings about him as well as Asteria and Julia, smiling then with a purr. "You sure do have a good way with those fingers, Kitty."
Red lay there motionless as he was constantly nudged by the bike with no results. If you had tires I'd slash them you know.. The bumping was getting a bit annoying at best.
"Oh, I know you would," said Su, a serene smile gracing his features. "Eh, well. Just deal with it. Look, we're already halfway to the hotdog stand."
He flashed a mock grin before going completely straight-faced and continuing to push Red with the jetbike.
Leaping off and taking a minute to recover her balance, Siouxie stayd level with the bike, holding her arms out for the child to jump in if she wished.
"Getting rough for you, honey, or are you alright?" she asked, wanting to make sure Starlyth wasn't going to fall before the vixen rejoined Domi.
"Though I am enjoying the crazy ride it is getting a bit rough. Jostling my belly." Starlyth replied, and she hugged Su before carefully hopping off into Sioux's arms.
Siouxie cuddled the draconian lioness tightly, carrying her to her mother and setting her gently on the ground.
"You know... from this angle, we're behind Bojo... why don't you go and scare him, leap on him and make him jump?" she grinned, watching Bojo's tail twitch innocently. Leaving the little girl alone to do her own thing if she wanted to, she sat by Asteria and nuzzled the other vixen gently, purring.
Su scooted back in his seat to allow the jebike to compensate for the weight shift.
"Alright, you two," he said, smiling. "Just be careful...you'll be a bit unsteady on your feet for a few minutes."
He gunned the engine, and sped off in the opposite direction to look for Aaron.
With all the insanity Talen, Talan and Suzuna were all forgotten. No one had meant to forget about them but it had gotten so insane. "We should go train in the forest now guys. I am sure Mids won't worry to much." the cubi cheetah murmered, knowing her well enough.
As the three departed Mids looked up in time to see just the tops of their heads disapear over the hill, then noticed that it was mid-afternoon, they hadn't even had their picnic yet. Grinning Mids did her best to settle and calm her friends enough to sit and eat, as well as enjoy the close company of eachother.
